Copenhagen: Roskilde, Frederiksborg & Kronborg Day Tour

1. Copenhagen: Roskilde, Frederiksborg & Kronborg Day Tour

Enjoy a scenic sightseeing tour of North Sealand on an 8.5-hour excursion from Copenhagen, and visit the royal monuments of Kronborg Castle and Frederiksborg Castle and the World Heritage site of Roskilde Cathedral. Ideal for those who want to explore further than the city center to see as much as possible of historic Denmark, but are short of time, you will travel in a small group for a more personalized experience. The tour includes time to explore the imposing exteriors and interiors of Frederiksborg and Kronborg castles, the latter set on the banks of the Sund between Denmark and Sweden, and most notable as the site of Elsinore in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Soak up the romantic setting of Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, surrounded by a beautiful lake and gardens. The guide will take you to Roskilde to visit Roskilde Cathedral, burial site of 39 Danish kings and queens, including Ingrid of Sweden, spouse of Denmark’s Frederick IX, father of the current Queen Margrethe II. The last stop on your tour will be the Viking Ship Museum to see rebuilt models and excavated ships from the days when the Vikings rampaged their way - and conquered - much of Western Europe and the North Atlantic. Please note, that between November and March and most of April, the tour does not include a visit to the Cathedral's interior but rather a walk around the impressive structure and an introduction to the Cathedral's place in history.

From Copenhagen: Kings, Castles and Countryside Tour

2. From Copenhagen: Kings, Castles and Countryside Tour

Join in on a full day’s tour where you will travel up the coast from bustling Copenhagen to the historic city of Helsingør. There you can visit Kronborg, Hamlet’s Castle, built by King Frederik II in 1585. In Helsingør you can visit the Maritime Museum, enjoy Smørrebrød, the famous Danish open sandwich, in Culture Wharf or walk around the historic center of Helsingør. After your visit to Helsingør, you will travel through the beautiful North Sealand countryside to Fredensborg Slot, which translated means Peace Palace, in English. The palace was built for King Frederik IV, between 1720 and 1726. Then travel along some country roads to the beautiful Frederiksborg Palace, built by King Christian IV. When finished in 1620, it was the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. Today Frederiksborg contains the largest collection of portrait paintings in Denmark. There are also two lovely gardens. One is the Baroque Garden, laid out in the formal French Baroque style, the other, the more natural garden in English Romantic style. After our visit to Fredensborg Palace, you will be taken back to Copenhagen.

A truly amazing experience run by a well-organised tour company. We had an amazing day on this tour, which was made extra special by our tour guide Nic who was incredibly passionate, knowledgeable, friendly, relaxed and organised. Throughout the day he made sure that every passenger was comfortable, nothing was a problem for him, and he went out of his way to make sure we all had the best experience possible. The venue for lunch was recommended to us by Nic and it was delicious and reasonably priced. There were plenty of opportunities for water throughout the day as Nic had them available on the bus. It’s a long day but a great snapshot of Roskilde, Frederiksborg & Kronborg if you have limited time. We’d highly recommend this tour and guide!! Could not speak anymore highly of Nic, he is a credit to Hamlet Tours.

This was a brilliant tour! We were lucky to have Nick and Thomas with us today, on this tour. They were both so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Denmark history and history in general that the tour seemed to fly by, as there seemed to not be enough time to talk about everything. I loved the layout of the tour and I think it was well planned, with a sneaky lunch before entering the Frederiksborg palace, which gave you enough energy to see the palace and the Kronborg castle soon after. The travel wasn't long and was very informative with Nick's history lessons I have definitely enjoyed this tour, thank you Nick and Thomas for your time and energy! Carry on with the amazing work!

Wonderful day trip with Hamlet Tours.Nick, our tour guide ,and his trainee Tomas were incredible . They connected all parts of Danish history from the Vikings to the present.Quite humorless as well.Very comfortable ride.I recommended it highly

Very nice experience, getting to see three different sights outside of Copenhagen. I loved the viking museum and Kronborg. Robert was a great guide, very professional, and with lots of knowledge. I would definitely recommend the tour!

Everything was perfect. I was picked up at my hotel. Our driver / tour guide Nick was very informative and entertaining. We did a quick tour of Copenhagen as we picked up the others and then had a very enjoyable day.
