Start your full-day tour with a pickup from your hotel in El Calafate. Take the legendary Route 40, which runs alongside Lake Argentino with its blueish-white glaciers.   Cross the Santa Cruz River and hear about Charles Darwin’s and Robert Fitz Roy’s expeditions. Continue to La Leona River, and stop at La Leona Roadhouse, where you can learn the history of Route 40 over a coffee and homemade cake. Walk along the edge of Lake Viedma and see the breathtaking peaks of the Andes mountain range, including Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. After your 3-hour journey, arrive at El Chatén, located in the Southern Andes in a valley where the rivers De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy meet. Admire the young village’s surroundings within the Los Glaciares National Park. Then, decide to either to hike along self-guided trails or remain in the town and enjoy some free time. If you choose to hike a trail, the tour guide will provide you with a map, a lunchbox and advise you on the different trail options to best suit your fitness level. Throughout the year, you can enjoy two short trails to Chorrillo del Salto and Mirador de los Cóndores. From October to April, you can also choose a trail that will take you to Capri Lagoon. If you prefer to stay in El Chaltén, you can enjoy a relaxing period of free time and explore the town. At 5 PM, start your journey back to El Calafate, arriving around 7:30-8 PM. Enjoy a convenient drop-off at your hotel after a full day of discovering Argentina’s nature.

Reconnect with nature and admire memorable landscapes on this trekking trip to El Chalten and the Laguna de los Tres, lunch included. Admire the local scenery and landscapes throughout the hike, including views of Fit Roy Mountain. The trip starts with the pickup from the hotels in the morning. Take the mythical Route 40 bordering the Argentino Lake and undertake a trip to the town of El Chalten, 220 km from El Calafate. Once in Chalten, stop at Rancho Grande (bar and mountain refuge) to use the restroom, receive your map, and learn the use of canes and crampons if necessary. Enjoy free coffee and snacks to recharge both before and after the trek. On the trek, venture inside part of the Andean Forest. If you are lucky, you'll see some of the animals that live there. Surprise yourself with all the landscapes that you will cross on your way. You'll soon find this to be a dream-like natural place. The path that is used is the Fitz Roy. Starting and ending in the same place, it's 10 km out and 10 km back. For the first two kilometers, the path is demanding. During kilometers 8 to 9, the path is also very demanding. The trip includes a lunch box (ham and cheese sandwich, muffins, granola, fruit, and water). After enjoying the impressive views of Cerro Fitz Roy and Laguna de los Tres and filling yourself with the magic of the place, you'll return to El Chalten via a well-marked path. Staff will be waiting for you at the fixed meeting point in advance for the return ride to El Calafate. Depending on the weather conditions, the route or sights seen may vary. Other spots you may visit include Camping Poicenot, Laguna Capri, and Sendero Torre.

3. From El Chaltén: Laguna de los Tres Full-Day Trek

Start the trek with a transfer to the trailhead at El Pilar, located 17 km to the north of the town. Take in the lovely views of the Río de Las Vueltas valley and the impressive Cordón de Los Cóndores as you drive. Start walking through dense forest until you arrive at the first viewpoint, the Piedras Blancas glacier. End up in a clearing and admire the peaks of Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz, and Guillaumet. Continue for a few more minutes until you arrive at Poincenot campground, located in beautiful lenga forest inhabited by countless varieties of birds. Then climb 400 m in about an hour until you arrive at Laguna de los Tres. Arrive at the highest point on the path, where you will be rewarded by majestic views of Fitz Roy, the glacier de los Tres, and its lagoon. From here, circle Laguna de los Tres and head towards the Laguna Sucia viewpoint and its glacier. After a rest and a bite for lunch, start the descent and walk back to El Chaltén. Pass some varying landscape, crystal clear streams and Laguna Capri, a favorite spot for photographers. Visit the lagoon as you drop down into the valley where El Chaltén is located.

Start your moderate 11 mile-hike to Laguna Torre at a designated meeting point in downtown. On the way, your guide will tell you about the impressive landscapes you’ll see while passing the Fitz Roy River, cross wide, glacially-formed valleys, and fairy-tale woods. You will be amazed by the views when you reach Mount Torre viewpoint, where you’ll get to know the Adela mountain range & its glaciers. Hit the trail again and pass by De Agostini campsite and cross old glacial moraines until Laguna Torre appears right before your eyes. Take your time to admire the breathtaking Cerro Hill crowning the lagoon, and the floating glaciers bobbing in the blue waters. Be prepared, this is a high-probability wildlife-spotting section. Try to catch a Magellanic woodpecker working diligently in a tree or a humble huemul (the Patagonian deer) strolling along the shore. After a restorative moment to eat lunch (not included) with this peaceful backdrop, start your hike back to El Chaltén.

Explore Patagonia form a unique perspective as you trek along the majestic Cagliero Glacier with expert guides. Encounter beautiful forests, lakes, and river views along the way and be rewarded with a hot drink.  Meet your guide and head with your hiking group to the Reserva Los Huemules, located 16 km from El Chalten. Follow secluded trails that pass through three fascinating Lengas forests within a private reserve. Enjoy a unique view of Fitz Roy on its northern wall and continue skirting the Laguna (lake) del Diablo through a natural but irregular terrain until reaching the beginning of the Via Ferrata. Arrive at the Cagliero Glacier viewpoint and from here look to the north to catch a glimpse of the unexplored Glacier Cagliero Sur, which for years remained alive thanks to its orientation and the accumulation of snow from the Neumayer, Cagliero, and Loma del Diablo hills. From the viewpoint, take a short walk to the front of the glacier and to the Vivac Cagliero, the hiking base camp. Here the guides will equip you with all necessary trekking gear and you will begin your exploration on the glacier, lasting about 3 hours.  In the afternoon, return to the Vivac Cagliero and enjoy the scenery while having a hot drink. Afterward, begin with the descent through a Tibetan bridge to the Diablo River and from there to the entrance of the Reserva Los Huemules where the vehicle will be waiting to take you back to El Chaltén.

Explore River Las Vueltas as you paddle its numerous curves through lenga forests and vertical walls. Admire the stunning natural scenery with interesting rock formations and views of the Fitz Roy from your kayak.   Meet your group at the meeting point, and head to River Las Vueltas. This river is born in the del Desierto Lake and it descends towards Lake Viedma transporting water from the melting of glaciers in the region.  This natural viewpoint is located on the edges of a ravine of height, with walls of interesting rock formations that were pierced by the passage of the river for thousands of years. From there you have excellent views towards the village of El Chaltén and the whole massif of the Torre and Fitz Roy hills.  From the river, get a privileged position in the kayak and for more than 20 kilometers enjoy amazing views of the Fitz Roy and its satellite needles, with an entirely different perspective from what can be seen from a path.

Very good organization, the bus picks us up at the hotel On time, the guide gives interesting explanations, the route is magnificent and very good hike with exceptional weather however a minimum physical level required is necessary for the hike of 3 hours .

Wonderful trip. The journey there w interesting and our guide provided really interesting and engaging commentary. The town of El Chalten us lovely, the scenery spectacular and the hike was just taxing enough. Faultless experience.
