Discover over 800 years of the history of Leipzig on this tour of the compact old town. The mercantile houses and passageways are as typical of the city's trading heritage as the traditional Saxon coffeehouses. The back courtyards and alleys round the market were the city's first "shopping center." Leipzig shows the whole world in a nutshell, as the famous poet Goethe put it. The passageways, constructed with the cloth-merchants' houses, were perfect for horse drawn carriages, which could pass through the town without having to turn. On your walk you will be shown large and small, old and new, well-known and hardly-used alleyways and back streets. New buildings, such as the Marktgalerie and the Brühl-Höfe, are continuing this architectural tradition. Don't miss the opportunity to get a taste of Leipzig's particular flair, on this informative tour.

What people are saying about Leipzig

Overall rating

It was really great. A highlight for families with children. Unfortunately, we had two "adult" women with us who accused others of cheating, which wasn't true, and obviously cheated the whole time. And also in the end the stones did together and thus won. It's a pity for all the children that they didn't at least pay attention and it was really very obvious that the two of them cheated. Maybe you should collect the individual bags and count them yourself as a quizmaster without announcing it beforehand...

What a great tour! We didn't even notice how quickly the time passed because Bertha entertained us so much! In 90 minutes we learned an incredible amount about Leipzig in a way that was entertaining, humorous and eloquent. Simply great and an absolute recommendation for anyone who wants to get to know Leipzig and is not just looking for standard information :)

Absolute recommendation! Rarely are city tours made with such a charming and funny Berta Bemme (hope it's spelled right)! If you want to learn something about Leipzig and we're really talking about Leipzig (600 by 800 meters - you'll understand it once you've done the tour) you can't avoid this tour!

The walking tour captured the most important historical aspects of Leipzig. It was interesting, the right length / time to get a good overview for further exploration, and the guide was great and entertaining!

It was a great journey and tour guide is friendly and humorous. We learned a lot and had a really good time which we will remember forever.
