Lisbon: Discoveries Sitway Tour

10. Lisbon: Discoveries Sitway Tour

A perfect area to enjoy the river and the best the city has to offer combining it with history. Belém is known as the historic district of the Age of Discovery. It was from its waterfront that Vasco da Gama and other explorers departed for their voyages, events celebrated today by grand monuments and museums in the neighborhood. The sensational architecture of the Tower of Belem and Jerónimos Monastery (both World Heritage sites) was the result of the discovery of the sea route to India, the opening of trade with Japan and the colonization of Brazil and parts of Africa and Asia.  These monuments are adorned and embellished with motifs of exotic lands elaborately carved in stone, as are the heroes of the age on the colossal Discoveries Monument. This is also Lisbon's museum district, with the one of a kind Coaches Museum filled with royal fairytale vehicles and the Berardo Museum showcasing a world-class collection of international contemporary and modern art. Despite all these attractions, it's a pastry shop that receives the most visitors. At Antiga Confeitaria de Belém (simply known as Pastéis de Belém or Belém pastries) you may devour one or several of Lisbon's famous custard tarts that originated at this site and that are still unlike any others found around the country, made here from a secret recipe. This is not your conventional Segway tour.  This is the only sitway tour in town (Sit-Segway), and you can choose whatever suits you better, rent a sitway to roll through town at your own pace or ask for one of the guided tours to visit the most wanted ex libris in town such as the Old Town (Alfama, the St Jorge Castle), Belem or Parque das Nações. You can also start at one station and deliver into another. You can basically do whatever you want, its your vacations. Sitway is suitable for everyone, from children to adults. In 1 minute, you will be an expert. Come alone, with your family or group of friends, the local tour operator can roll up to 50 people at the same time. On this unique experience, you will be able to observe Lisbon monuments, see the amazing city lights, the Tagus River and its sunsets, viewpoints, parks, food and people as you roll seated and comfortable.

Brilliant tour of Lisbon with David. Recommend a 2 hour plus experience to see as much as you can on zippy segways. Very friendly and knowledgeable guide, he soon put my young sons fears at ease as he mastered Segway within a couple of minutes training from David. Lisbon is covered in hills so this tour made life a breeze as we watched people struggling up steep inclines. Good knowledge of the city from a true local. Would recommend you do these tours as your first activity as it definately helps you with your bearings and makes the rest of your trip easy to plan. Highly recommended your with a fantastic guide.

The system had overbooked, but they found a solution and made it happen anyway. The staff was friendly, the instructions on how to drive the segway was patient and precise. We had chosen a tour in english and the guide was eysy to understand. The tour was interesting and fun. It is a good way to see Lisbon, you cover a large area without getting tired and you are still close to the the city as a contrast to a tour on a bus. A fun and informative activity. Thank you. to our guide David!
