  • Watch monkeys in a natural environment with spectacular mountain views
  • Visit a typical house and see how the locals live
Full description
After being picked up from your accommodation in Bayahibe, set off on your safari adventure. Begin the tour with the visit to a typical country house where you can mingle with Dominicans and learn how to live off the land and their organic products. There, have the opportunity to try roasted coffee and cocoa. Then, head over to the beautiful botanical garden, where you will learn about native plants and flowers of the island. For the next 45 minutes, enjoy a guided tour that allows you to interact in close proximity with the beautiful and friendly squirrel monkeys at Monkeyland. These charming and intelligent monkeys have been looked after by a Canadian couple with 35 years of experience working with animals, including 12 years at the Toronto Zoo teaching monkeys to trust and enjoy the company of humans. During the tour, explore 5 acres of a beautiful piece of land that the monkeys have made their home. The monkeys are completely accustomed to human contact. They come down from the trees to sit on your shoulder and eat from your hands. Beware monkeys love all things bright and interesting! Little monkeys love to pose for the cameras and probably will sit, and if allowed, see themselves in your camera. Adorable! Come share an unforgettable experience!

The whole tour was great, even the presentation of the plantation was very interesting. The only problem was, that the animal keepers were sometimes to quick when passing families and couples during the “feeding rounds”, so that the monkeys just ran over them and didn’t really stay with them for a chance to make their own photo. We had the feeling that families with children had much more time with the monkeys and other people were basically “skipped” sometimes, such as us. Of course the animal keepers made a few very good pictures too, but sorry guys, 40$ for the whole set (they made 10 of us) or 10$ per picture is way too expensive. Apart from that a wonderful experience with the positive side effect of supporting the locals.

Pros: - Pick up at the hotel without any problems. The driver and especially the guide had the necessary language skills. (Late pickup after breakfast or short stop for breakfast desirable) - Visiting the monkeys was a lot of fun. Pleasant tour even if the area is manageable. Negative: - Inspection of the typical house is without highlights. Some information is given, but it feels more like a smuggling and wasting of time that one would rather have alone with the animals. - Tasting coffee and cocoa Ok, but the resulting shop expensive. I wonder who can drink coffee for $20 a pound. - long uncomfortable ride. Conclusion: It was important to me to see and interact with monkeys, even if the time was short, everyone made a lot of effort to protect the animals even during the ongoing pandemic and still allow access. Recommendation for all the approx. 90€ p. P. Over have.

Very nice experience. We not only saw and fed the monkies, as we learned a lot about coffee, coconut oil and cocoa. The views on the way to the monkey land os very beautiful? You can see some of the Dominican life, you can see nature, you can see beauty. U just have to be open for it and embrace it! Our guide (Junior) and driver (Manuel) were equally wonderful. Very kind, funny and helpful. They definitely love their job! Thank you for this experience!
