Full description
Ascend to the summit of the craters of Mount Etna, one of the most coveted excursions a hiker can make. Hike in full safety with an authorized alpine and volcano guide, with whom you will marvel at the beauty and wonder of the highest active volcano in Europe, at 3,340 meters above sea level.   Departing from Sapienza Refuge in Nicolosi, the cable car will first take you up 2,504 meters. From this point, you’ll ride in a 4x4 Jeep up to 2,900 meters, and at this point, your hike begins. You’ll hike 1.5 hours uphill, passing many craters and taking long pauses to take pictures and rest. There’s no feeling like being on the top of the world in this rocky, beautiful landscape with the giant sky above you. Once you reach the summit, you’ll then descend for 2 hours until you reach the cable car again, which will take you to your departure point.

Unfortunately due to volcanic activity it wasnt allowed to hike to the summit. We got messaged about this a day in advance with an offer for an alternative past previous lava flows and craters, which we took. It still was a beautifull experience with a very friendly, experienced and knowledgeable, multi lingual guide. We didn't get to take the 4x4 bus because we were hiking on a lowere altidtude but got that refunded through get your guide.

Although we could not go all the way up with the jeeps due to activities of Etna, we made a great trek from the top cable car along craters, lava fields, walked through the black volcanic grains, up and down. All in all it was a strenuous but beautiful trip in which the guide provided a lot of interesting information. We had never done the walk without a guide and it was more than worth the extra cost for the guide. We get a partial refund afterwards because we couldn't go all the way up, we walked from about 2500 meters to about 2800-2900 meters with a few steep calves that made us gasp, but there are more than enough stops that the guide takes into account with the slightly slower ones. As a 67 year old I was one of the oldest I noticed. The tour lasted from about 10 am to 2:30 pm. Bring your own food and drink. You can buy it downstairs at the gondola for a reasonable price. The guide gave us a jacket, socks and helmet

Superb hike from the cable car with Edoardo. No summit because of the volcanic activity, we made another route (cheaper because no 4x4) and were warned before to have the possibility of canceling if we wanted. Passionate about Etna, Edoardo takes the time to explain each step in French. Very available, he even helped us with parking issues.
