Full description
Depart Krakow for a confronting day of reflection with a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps. Undoubtedly, it is a solemn place that leaves a lasting impression all visitors, and an important memorial to the victims of the extermination.  Funded by the Nazi party in 1940, Auschwitz-Birkenau became both a symbol of human suffering and a witness to physical and emotional exhaustion. As the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis, it became the final resting place for millions of people, mostly Jews, put to their death in the hideous gas chambers. Visit the museum and memorial in the suburbs of Oświęcim, about 60 kilometers west of Krakow. Upon arrival, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later, meet a professional guide who will show you around the site and speak of its dark history. Pass through the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the preserved area and explain the history of this place. Then, visit the second camp at Birkenau, where mass killings took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question." Spend about 1 hour at the Birkenau camp, before meeting your driver for the return journey to Kraków.

A recommended visit. We had our guide but we were also accompanied by an official museum guide who showed great knowledge of the place. We felt that we were going too fast on the visit, but we understand that it is the pace due to the number of groups visiting Auschwitz. They picked us up at the meeting point and dropped us off at the same place.

Visita molto toccante e intensa. Consigliamo davvero tantissimo.

Bus could fit 24 people including driver and the tour "guide", but we was only 10 people in the bus (1.5h ride) to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Got 15min break, toilets (free) and restaurant with food, snacks, drinks and ice-cream at the entrance, no need to order food from the tour company. They say no bags bigger than a A4-paper, but I had my school backpack and they let us in with it, same with many other tourists that had it. No locking storage for bags there. They splitted us up by language of the tour with other groups of the tour company. The tour in Auschwitz is 1h 50min with a guide (not same person from the bus), I recommend not to walk alone as its not interested without a guide. Then 10min break before a 2min bus ride to Birkenau. 1h 30min tour with the same guide in Birkenau. And then 1.5h ride back to Krakow. We could survive with bank cards through the whole Krakow trip, no cash is needed. Mask is required inside.
