Boarding from the port of Tropea and after about two hours of navigation, docking in San Vincenzo, a typical village with its characteristic white houses and Aeolian architecture. In the immediate vicinity of the landing there are the suggestive black beaches, where it is possible to swim. Free time allows you to have an aperitif or to dine in a room with a sea view, to stroll through the narrow streets of the picturesque town, to go and visit the church of San Vincenzo or the Operational Center of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology on the Seafront or to observe the traditional fishermen. Also not to be missed are the Greek-Roman Acropolis and the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo of Norman origin. The historic center offers a variety of shops where you can spend your time shopping. A few hundred meters south of Lipari is the suggestive island of Vulcano, the last stop on our tour. According to Greek mythology, the forges of Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire, were located here. The reason is obvious: fumaroles and jets of steam can be observed at the top of the active Fossa volcano and under the sea water. Vulcano creates a particular, almost ancestral relationship between the island and the visitor. The island is the ideal place for trekking lovers, who will be able to reach the top of the crater to enjoy a priceless landscape

From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

9. From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

The Aeolian Islands are a fascinating volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. They are named after Aeolus, the demigod of the winds.  Lipari is the biggest, most populated Aeolian Island and has historically been the most significant. Lipari offers a grand archaeological museum housed in the buildings around the Duomo. Also impressive are the white shiny pumice quarries, which, overlooking the sea, give the water an amazing turquoise hue. Vulcano, which gives its name to all volcanoes, is particularly famous for its sulfurous mud baths and its smoking main crater. A man named Stevenson lived on Vulcano until the last major eruption in 1888. He never returned although his villa is still visible and intact. The tour departs from Taormina by bus to Milazzo harbour on the North coast of Sicily then continues by private boat to Lipari. In Lipari there is plenty of time to visit the old town center, to see the interesting archaeological park or simply shop for souvenirs. Guests then transfer by boat to the island of Vulcano for a second stop. Here there is the possibility to swim in the warm sulphureous seawater or enjoy the beach and have a delicious lunch (optional). On the way back, the tour follows the coastline to see the Faraglioni Rocks, the Horse Cave and the Mermaid's Rock.

perfect from start to finish. we had text messages on the day confirming our booking and explaining details of the meeting point. Giuseppe, our guide was very knowledgeable and explained about the volcano and landscape during the hike. when we reached the destination we waited until sunset and saw the volcano eruptions. excellent experience with a great guide who made sure we were all safe on the hike. make sure you take a jacket as it gets cool very quickly at 400 metres when the sun sets.

Very interesting visit to two Aeolian islands with a very professional and friendly guide. Also the crossing with the boat was very interesting because on the way back from the islands we passed next to other islands and rocks in the sea with the very interesting comments of the guides.

We enjoyed the hike with Pepe. We learned about the island, and volcanoes in general. Nice sunset, but the best was the eruption we saw at night!

A lovely day out enjoying the amazing geology. Unfortunately it was impossible to hear the announcements about what we were seeing
