From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

9. From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

The Aeolian Islands are a fascinating volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. They are named after Aeolus, the demigod of the winds.  Lipari is the biggest, most populated Aeolian Island and has historically been the most significant. Lipari offers a grand archaeological museum housed in the buildings around the Duomo. Also impressive are the white shiny pumice quarries, which, overlooking the sea, give the water an amazing turquoise hue. Vulcano, which gives its name to all volcanoes, is particularly famous for its sulfurous mud baths and its smoking main crater. A man named Stevenson lived on Vulcano until the last major eruption in 1888. He never returned although his villa is still visible and intact. The tour departs from Taormina by bus to Milazzo harbour on the North coast of Sicily then continues by private boat to Lipari. In Lipari there is plenty of time to visit the old town center, to see the interesting archaeological park or simply shop for souvenirs. Guests then transfer by boat to the island of Vulcano for a second stop. Here there is the possibility to swim in the warm sulphureous seawater, have a mud bath, or enjoy the beach and have a delicious lunch (optional). On the way back, the tour follows the coastline to see the Faraglioni Rocks, the Horse Cave and the Mermaid's Rock.

Everything worked wonderfully. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play along so it rained and stormed the entire stay on the island. The boat stop at Stromboli was very impressive. The boat lasted long enough to be able to admire this natural spectacle several times. For me, as well as some other guests, the return trip was pure horror. The weather was very bad and it was rocking heavily. Several guests struggled with the contents of their stomachs. The crew acted very carefully and understandingly. Bags were distributed and, if necessary, collected again. Unfortunately, the weather cannot be booked, but the crew and the entire organization was great in our opinion!

Very nice hike in a beautiful site. Our guide Giuseppe, very competent, gave us many explanations and did not hesitate to stay an hour longer than planned, at night, so that we could witness a beautiful explosion of Stromboli which was "calm" during our visit. .

We had asked for a French guide, but that was not the case. But he was patient so that I understood. Great guide. Magnificent hike, too bad the summit is not accessible (but that, nobody can do anything about it). To do without hesitation!! Thank you

Very good trip, everything the description promised. Our guide, Giuseppe, was very friendly and informative. Would recommend.

Great guide. Very open, friendly. Take care of the group and pay attention to everyone's level A big thank you.
