Machu Picchu: Full-Day Tour from Cusco with Optional Lunch

1. Machu Picchu: Full-Day Tour from Cusco with Optional Lunch

Discover the magic of the Andes and Machu Picchu on a full-day trip from Cusco. Marvel at mountain views on a train to Aguas Calientes. Hop on a comfortable bus to Machu Picchu and begin a guided tour. Upgrade your experience with the option to include an authentic Peruvian lunch. Start with pickup from your hotel in Cusco and travel to Ollantaytambo Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. This is the nearest town to Machu Picchu. Enjoy a scenic train journey through dramatic Andean landscapes. The train has ample seats with large windows allowing for grand views of the surrounding jungle and mountains.  Board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu. The city of Machu Pichu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by the Inca emperor Pachacuti as a holiday retreat. Within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it, so it was spared the destruction they brought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. Take a guided tour of the site which explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and its most prominent landmarks such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial, and the Burial Grounds. After the tour, be returned to Aguas Calientes where you can take some free time to explore the city, or enjoy an optional lunch.  After some time in the town, return to Aguas Calientes station to take the train back to the Ollantaytambo Station, from there you will be taken back to your hotel.

From Cusco or Sacred Valley: Private Machu Picchu Day Tour

2. From Cusco or Sacred Valley: Private Machu Picchu Day Tour

After the booking has been made, your guide will coordinate your preferred entrance time and organize everything necessary to make sure your experience is personalised and special. The day prior, the local partner will include you in a Whatsapp group with your guide and driver, to ensure you have a point of contact throughout your experience. On the day of your tour, your driver will pick you up at the time coordinated as per the prior communication and bring you safely and comfortably to the train station. From here, you'll check-in and enjoy your ride on the train to the Machu Picchu village, Aguas Calientes. Outside of the train station, your guide will wait and accompany you to the bus stop, from which, you'll head to the Machu Picchu entrance. Now, it's time to say "hello" to the most beautiful and interesting place in Peru, Machu Picchu. Thanks to the privacy, you have full flexibility on breaks and where you'd like to go. Most travellers prefer to first head to the left terrace from where postcard-like pictures can be shot by your guide (who loves to take pictures). From here it's time to head on and explore the fascinating ruins and their characteristics. Let the guide take you back in time, learn about the architecture as well as the history, the kind of details groups won't experience due to time restrictions as they rush through the archeological site. At the end of your tour, you will have the chance to stay for a little longer at the final part of the archeological round-trip (Machu Picchu can only be visited by following one route, there is no chance of heading back, only forward), until you'd reach the exit. In this moment, it's time to say farewell to your guide. Keep your train time in mind and head to the bus back to Aguas Calientes on time. Here you can enjoy lunch before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo. Your driver will await you here again at the same spot where he dropped you off in the morning. In Cusco in the evening, you'll be dropped off at your hotel, filled with memories that will remain for a lifetime.

What people are saying about Aguas Calientes

It went very well. Hotel pick-up, use of the train, pick-up at the train station at the valley station. Transport by bus to Machu Picchu and the actual guided tour were great! The guide took very good care of us and gave us a lot of information and showed us the places for beautiful photos. Not pushy but always friendly and with good English we had a great day with him.

Honestly the best experience of my life. I was the only person in my group so had a personal guide who was amazing, I learnt so much about the site and he was also an amazing photographer! The transfers were all very smooth, the resin was a beautiful experience and I loved having time to explore Machu Picchu town too. 12/10 would recommend.

A very well organised tour which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Communication was great and all worked like a well oiled machine. Our guide at Machu Picchu was very knowledgeable and gave us a great experience. Thank you
