What people are saying about Ait Benhaddou
Very tiring but it's definitely worth it! Day 1 - Marrakech - several beautiful stops to grab a quick breakfast and take pictures of Mountain Atlas - Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO world heritage site, optional, 25 mad) - Lunch - drive through Ouarzazate - dinner/rest in the city of Tinghir Day 2 - Tinghir - visit Palmeraie de Tinghir (local crops, plants, carpets) - (order lunch at a restaurant) visit Les gorges du todra (about 30 minutes visit of the gorge then have lunch) - final drive ~3 hrs to Merzouga desert with several stops along the way - arrive at a nomad camp hotel. If upgraded, toyota truck to drive to where you start riding the camels/dromedary to the camp - enjoy the sunset - dinner, singing and dancing around a firepit - (optional) enjoy starry night at ~4 am Day 3 - (this is the most tiring day) breakfast in the camp / enjoy the sunrise - camel ride & Toyota truck back to the nomad camp hotel - drive back to Marrakech (~8pm) with several stops to have lunch along the way
This was an opportunity of a lifetime. The driver, Mohammed was so kind and treated us well. He communicated with us, allowed us to get out and take plenty pics along the way. It was great. The hotel stay was fine. The food and drinks were great, not expensive. We saw the wonderful Kasbah as well as the movie studios. We learned a lot in Ourazazate. Our guide Ali was phenomenal. He was able to talk about things happening in America, which was a plus. The Berber home we visited was also great. We had lovely Berber Whiskey. Our guests were kind and taught us everything about rug making. The desert camp was so much fun. Riding the dromedaries was definitely bucket list! All items checked. If you book this tour, you will love it.
I did this tour with another operator 1 year ago. The first overnight stay was a lot better this time - instead of a simple village inn (simple regional quality), this time there was a good hotel with a bathroom, good 3-course meal and a pool. I was impressed by comparison. It was nice that there are few tourists in Morocco at the moment and that everything is a bit more familiar.
Despite the long journeys, it is an incredible experience! The landscapes are beautiful, I really recommend
Amazing experience, with an excellent cost benefit relation.
