Oviedo: Taramundi, Mazonovo, and Os Teixois Mills Day Trip

2. Oviedo: Taramundi, Mazonovo, and Os Teixois Mills Day Trip

Asturias is one of the most beautiful places in the north of Spain. A region considered to be paradise, its mountain villages are authentic pearls. To the west of the Principality is Taramundi, right next to the border with Lugo. A fairytale place where time seems to have stopped. Departing from Oviedo, and making a stop in Gijón, we will go to this wonderful town. You must be ready to be amazed by the beauty of the natural and traditional, in the middle of the Biosphere. As soon as we arrive at Taramundi, we will discover one of its most traditional practices. You should know that this Asturian town is considered an Area of Craft Interest, so the experience in the area would not be complete if we did not know the importance that the razor and knife workshops have had. Practices that you will love to know and will leave you impressed. In addition, we will also have the option to visit one of its famous cheese factories. Because aside from the traditional, Taramundi cheese has managed to value the old ways of making this food. And that is where the charm of knowing the place where its different varieties are made lies. A pleasant visit thanks to which you will get closer to the most traditional side of the area. Once we have entered the Water Route, which is the best known in the region, we are going to immerse ourselves in a place full of charm and nature where we will have the opportunity to see how water was worked and used in area. During the journey we will stop at the famous Mazonovo Mills, between the Turia and Cabreira rivers. It may seem strange, but at this point there is a unique museum in all of Spain. Specifically, the largest center of mills in the entire country. In total, there are 19 windmills that you will be able to see, with eight manual ones, 6 hydraulic ones, three for children and two special ones. As you can see, the activity is also intended for the entertainment of the little ones. After passing through the well-known Salgueira waterfall and other natural treasures in the area, we will arrive at the town of As Veigas, the furthest on the Water Route. A magical place surrounded by the Asturian natural green and its lush forests. Once the visit to this town is over, we will head to the Molinos de Os Teixos. A set of hydraulic constructions that maintain their natural charm and that were recovered to show everyone the importance of the traditional in the area. Here we will get to know in detail the complex of the Os Teixos Mills, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. In love to the bars with a wonderful and incredible area of western Asturias.
