Full description
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Athens and heads to the Corinth Canal, also known as the Isthmus Canal. Explore this fascinating example of engineering, which dates back to the 19th century, and learn about its role in the world of Mediterranean trade. Continue onto the Ancient Diolkos, a paved path near the canal which enabled boats to move overland during ancient times. Arrive at the Archaeological Museum next, which houses an impressive collection of Olympia’s artworks and artifacts. Highlights of the museum include the Sculpture from the Temple of Zeus, arguably one of the finest surviving examples of Archaic Greek sculpture, as well as the Winged Victory by Paiongs, the Hermes of Praxiteles, and a model of the reconstructed ancient Olympia site. After the museum, enjoy free time to wander through the picturesque streets of Olympia, mingle with the locals, and shop for handmade souvenirs at the village shops. As you explore, get a sense of local life and learn about modern culture in this ancient location. Finally, enjoy lunch at La Belle Helene (at own expense) and treat your taste buds to an authentic home cooked Greek meal.

It was an interesting trip with Yannis. He explained everything from ancient Greece to modern Greece. Olympia is a huge place, get comfortable shoes and a hat. I enjoyed the trip. Thanks to Yannis
