Belize City

On your way to Altun Ha, enjoy a panoramic city tour and see all the points of interest, such as the old colonial-style buildings that still stand in Belize City. See the light house, the Belize sign, the wealthy portions of the city called the Kings Park zone, the school district, the hospital, the central Bank of Belize, and the prime minister’s home. Drive north for about one hour to the Mayan temples. On your way, see the different ecosystems of flora and fauna. Altun Ha was an important Mayan religious and trading center dating back to 200 BC. The site was first excavated in 1963 and researchers believe that it was once home to 10,000 people.  At the site, enjoy a guided tour of the entire ancient city, learn about its history and construction style of the buildings. Travel back in time and try to imagine how the Mayan people lived.

Meet and greet your guide, then board the van. The drive is one hour to the cave park. The guide hands everyone a helmet, light and jacket. Then a 20 minute walk thru the forest, crossing the river, waistdeep, along the path. Arriving at the caves. Everyone sits in a tube with head rest and the guide links everyone together and manuevers the tubes downstream, navigating thru several cave systems and pausing to show off many formations and waterfall. Then exit the caves onto the open river. Continue downstream for another 20 minutes listening to the sounds in the forest. Arriving at the car park area. Here there are many facilities, giftshops, restaurants and bar. Then its a relaxing drive back to the port.

Relax as you board an air-conditioned vehicle that will set off for the caves on a 1-hour narrated tour of the country and local customs. For cruise passengers, choose to include an additional ziplining activity when booking and zoom across the lush rainforest canopy prior to the kayaking adventure. When you arrive at the national park, get kitted out with helmets, jackets, lights, paddles. As your cave tubing tour begins, your friendly tour guide will take you through Belize City and onto the George Price Highway toward Jaguar Paw. This will include a brief history lesson as you make your way to your destination. At Jaguar Paw you will enjoy both the rainforest and the underworld of the Mayas as you hike for about 30 minutes through the rainforest. Your guide will point out different medicinal plants and their benefits that were once used by the Mayas and locals today. At the cave enjoy the refreshing cold river water as you float through the cave system and relax as you enjoy listening to rainforest come to life. Along the way enjoy views of the old Belize river, rural villages, fruit trees, and birds. When you arrive at the dock, board your boat for the 1-hour cruise on the New River. Be sure to watch for iguanas, crocodiles, turtles, birds, and water-lilies. At the Lamania Maya Site, your guide will lead you on a walk through the rainforest, scattered with ancient structures, to arrive at the Mask Temple. Your guide will share in-depth archeological information about the site. The Lamania Maya site is known for being the longest continually-occupied site in Mesoamerica. The thriving crocodile population in the nearby New River lagoon gave Lamanai its name. Lamanai is the Spanish historic name for Lama’ an/ayin, which means “submerged crocodile.” Many of the site's main structures and excavated artifact exhibits represent the famed reptile. You'll have the chance to climb to the summit of the highest temple and see the awesome view of northern Belize and the lagoon. Then continue your walk through the Ball Court, Stelas, the Jaguar temple, stelae, and residential buildings. Then board your boat for the return trip to Belize City, with drop-off at the Cruise Ship Terminal or at your hotel lobby, depending on the option you selected.

Board an air-conditioned vehicle and head to the caves on a 1-hour narrated tour of the country, local customs, and natural scenery.  When you arrive at the cave site, change into your swimsuit and get kitted out with helmets, headlights, life vests, and inner tubes for the cave tubing. Then, take a short hike in the jungle for about 25 to 30 minutes to get to the entrance of the caves, crossing the river a few times. As you begin tubing inside the cave, stay connected to all the tubes as your guide takes you along the route. Marvel as they point out natural rock formations, bats, stalagmites, and stalagmites. Then, emerge from the cave and enjoy an open river float for another 15 to 20 minutes. Keep your eyes peeled in the trees as it's possible to see black howler monkeys and other wildlife.  At the end of the tour, have time to change into dry clothes and drive to your next adventure. The zip-line site is only minutes away from the cave area. Once there, get geared up in your harness and helmets and hand gloves. Take a short hike to get to the first platform, where there are 6 different lines you can go on - the longest one is about 750 feet (229 m) and about 100 feet (30 m) high.  As you soar along the zip-line, see the canopy of the jungle from above and pass between the trees too where you will be able to see different wildlife. Finally, return to Belize City where the tour concludes.
