Portimão: Pirate Ship Cave Cruise

1. Portimão: Pirate Ship Cave Cruise

After boarding, begin by receiving a full briefing on your safety and comfort for your cruise. From there, hit the open water and navigate the coast off of Rio Arade, the village of Ferragudo, medieval castles, and the Atlantic Ocean. Cruising east, pass Carvoeiro, which contains the famous rock formation of Algar Seco. Arriving to the lighthouse of Alfanzina, transfer to a small boat to visit the inside of the local caves which run from the lighthouse to Marinha Beach. These caves include the famous cathedral cave of Benagil. Returning to the boat, take a dip to swim in the enticing crystal clear water which surrounds you. On your return journey, be on the lookout for dolphins, which are regularly spotted in this area.

From Albufeira: 3.5-Hour Cruise with Cave Exploration

2. From Albufeira: 3.5-Hour Cruise with Cave Exploration

Climb aboard the Leãozinho for a 3.5-hour day cruise leaving from the Albufeira Marina in the morning. Set your sails westward and head into the Atlantic towards the sandy shores of San Rafael, Castelo and Praia da Gale. Stare out towards the majestic cliffs and see the rock chapel Senhora da Rocha perched over the sea. Shortly after passing the fishermen at Armacao de Pera, arrive at the stunning beach and sapphire blue waters of Praia de Benagil. Here, have the option to explore the enormous sea cave, indulge in a warm swim in the crystal clear Atlantic, or have a go at fishing. Satiate your thirst at the onboard Pirate Bar, where you can sip on a cool and refreshing beverage of beer, soft drinks and water, and relish the sparkling blue sea. As you motor back to Albufeira, stay alert for dolphins whose fins are often seen racing along the ship.

What people are saying about Benagil

The ship is beautifully restored with lovely details of brass complimenting the deep wood tones and curved design reminiscent of bygone eras of seafaring. Absolute gem for photographers. The crew is very friendly and polylingual so that the major European languages English, German, French, Portuguese and I think Spanish are covered. There is an option for food and drink on board, but I haven't tried them. The cave tour is awe-inspiring, especially the Cathedral Cave of Benagil, and gives many opportunities to take epic photos of the large ship through cave openings which make for impressive memory shots. I strongly recommend the sunset tour, it elevates the experience even more as the setting sun paints the sandstone cliffs golden against the deep blue of the sea and the sky. Amazing, we will do it again! A note: One can get seasick even in a calm sea, the small boat ride into the caves alleviates it, however.

Price-performance ratio very good! 3 hours on the way. In the middle of the sea you can switch to smaller boats, which then drive directly into the caves. Pure Adventure. Drinks and fresh, delicious sandwiches are sold on the ship at very fair prices. The crew reacts and works very concentrated and professional. Never felt unsafe. There is a good, relaxed atmosphere. During the trip, information about Portugal, the caves, etc. is passed on to you in different languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, English). You could even jump off the ship into the water before returning. A great experience

Very nice boat, friendly staff, perfect with young children …. Commentary in French, and possibility of swimming in the open sea, visiting the caves in small boats is also very pleasant. In short, a great time for a very reasonable price

Definitely recommended. From the boat you really see how beautiful the coastline is. And when you reach the caves, you transfer in a small boat. You notice that people have a lot of experience with it. And so you can get very close.

Amazing experience , everybody should do this !!! I did it two times already
