Full description

Listen to the fascinating stories of life and death that the Berlin Charité has to tell. It all began in the 18th century with a plague house that would later develop into what it is today: one of the most important university hospitals in Europe. Marvel at the time-honoured buildings that have beared witness to great moments in medical history. Follow in the footsteps of Rudolf Virchow, Robert Koch, Emil von Behring, Karl Bonhoeffer and Ferdinand Sauerbruch. Your tour starts at the famous Charité ward block and leads across the university campus. Learn interesting facts about the geniuses of Berlin medicine, but also about the dark times of the institution, when the doctors collaborated with the Nazi regime. On the tour you will also visit a mysterious "medicine temple". It is Berlin's oldest surviving teaching building and is hidden in a backyard.

The tour was well organized. The city guide Susanne did the tour at the Charité very well, she has outstanding knowledge. Unfortunately, the Charité could only be viewed from the outside, which was a pity. But we all know the reasons. Perhaps it would be an advantage if this were known in advance. So the disappointment was written all over the face of all participants when Susanne told us at the beginning.

A wonderful guided tour in the footsteps of the pioneers of modern medicine, such as Virchow, Behring, Sauerbruch, just to name a few. Our guide Susanne made it very lively with lots of wit and great expertise. Very interesting the visit to the animal anatomy theater and anatomy. Thank you very much, I will unreservedly recommend this tour.

The tour around the Charite and the clinics was really great. Susanne explained everything to us really well. Showed us some interesting things left and right of the trail. Too bad you couldn't get on the premises due to covid. But the tour was still very nice. And above all very interesting and instructive. If at some point covid should be over, at least we hope so, we will take part in the tour of the site again.
