About the activity provider
Calypso Reef Charters is committed to creating a unique reef experience for every guest. Family owned and operated, Calypso departs daily from the Meridian Marina, Port Douglas travelling to the outer Great Barrier Reef. Calypso travels to the pristine Opal Reef within the Great Barrier Reef marine park and has access to many spectacular reef sites. Three different sites are visited daily for guests to explore the diversity of marine life and coral formations found there. The wide bodied catamaran, Calypso, is extremely comfortable; plenty of seating for everyone, air conditioned saloon, spacious outdoor areas with sundeck and sun lounges and a wide, easy access swim–up platform. A Calypso day includes visiting three sites on the outer Great Barrier Reef, all snorkelling equipment, lycra suits, wet suits, floatation devices, prescription masks, morning & afternoon tea, lunch, guided snorkel tours, an interpretive reef talk and fresh hot water showers. SNORKELLING: The Calypso crew provides professional supervision and tuition, with a comprehensive snorkelling safety brief and guided snorkel tour. In-water assistance is provided if guests have never snorkelled before. INTRODUCTORY DIVING: *No experience necessary to SCUBA dive. Our PADI Dive Instructors will take you through a Discover Scuba Diving Brief highlighting all safety and skills. Once at the reef, divers will practice skills both on the boat and in the water before being taken on a 30-40 minute dive with the Dive Instructor. *Asthma and some medical conditions may prevent people from diving. CERTIFIED DIVING: For certified divers, Calypso has a great selection of sites where the professional PADI Instructors and Dive Masters will guide divers in small groups. All levels of experience are catered for and dive computers are provided as well as a fast dive tender for safety.
