Skirting the National Park that leads from Camogli to Portofino, San Fruttuoso Abbey seems for all the world like a miracle, nestling in a little creek and protected by a 16th-century tower – a fine example of a piece of architecture successfully integrated into the natural context. And yet the very inaccessibility of the site and the presence of a source of fresh water rendered it, in the 8th century, an ideal location for the foundation of a church. It is said that it was the martyr St Fructuosus himself who chose the bay, appearing in a dream to Prospero, Bishop of Tarragon, who was fleeing Spain to escape the Moors, and was searching for a place in which to safeguard the ashes of the saint. Rebuilt in the 10th century as a Benedictine monastery, from the 13th century the abbey’s fate became intertwined with that of the Doria family, who renovated its design, adding the loggia with two tiers of three-light windows and transferring here the family burial ground. In 1983, the family decided to donate the entire complex to FAI. The re-birth of this complex has been ongoing since then. The site plays host to two very different buildings, both requiring constant care. April 2017 saw the conclusion of the final restoration works, which involved the overhaul of the water source next to which the bell tower was constructed. The monastery, with its cloister and the Doria tombs, the primitive church and the parish church, the archaeological remains and the little village...only a visit in person can allow you to discover the authentic soul of this place lapped by the crystal-clear sea, which now offers visitors the option of staying in the guest accommodation – ideal for those who want to get away from it all like never before.

You will meet your guide in front of the wonderful Church of San Rocco di Camogli, a beautiful village on top of Camogli. From here you will walk with your guide and enjoy the beauty of the nature that surrounds you. Upon your arrival to the Location, a wonderful old olive mill, you will begin your wine-tasting experience. You will learn the history of the local wine tradition, the cultivation method, and the wine production process. Throughout your experience, you will discover four different wines from different Ligurian wineries and taste them with the help of a sommelier. Your entire tasting experience will be accompanied by typical products such as Taggiasca olives and focaccia. After the tasting, you’ll be free to spend your evening in Camogli. Continue to Recco, a sunny city in the Riviera, where the hills meet the waterside. Finally, you'll see Camogli, nestled on the west side of the Portofino peninsula, and San Fruttuoso, which is nestled neatly into a bay that is blanketed with greenery. Take time to explore San Fruttuoso before concluding your return trip.

Explore the Liguria region on a half-day hiking trip through the stunning Portofino Park. Be amazed by the secret beach of San Fruttuoso. Meet your guide at the train station in Camogli and start your tour through the beautiful Portofino Natural Park. After 1,5 hours hiking through the Mediterranean forest, reach the first stop, where you can have a rest and admire an outstanding view. Continue to hike 2h through the beautiful Portofino Natural Park you'll reach San Fruttuoso Bay and relax on one of the most beautiful beaches in Liguria. Here you can have a lunch in the local restaurant or bar. Your guide will show you how to get back with the local ferry, you can choose to enjoy this amazing beach as long as you like and back with one of the several ferries running daily back to Camogli. Return to Camogli by ferry and admire views of the natural park from the sea.

Head out to Portofino National Park for a day on the trails on this hiking tour. Take in spectacular coastal views, swim in the sea, and snack on some organic ice cream. Depart from Santa Margherita Ligure train station and cross the national park into the heart of the mountains. Once there, hike through valleys dotted with ancient water mills and reach the top, 610 meters above sea level. Continue along the coast to and stop at some viewing spots along the way. Enjoy panoramic views of the Ligurian coast. Then, go down towards the village of San Rocco, passing by the tiny hamlet of Mortola. This out-of-the-way place can only be reached on foot or by motorcycle. From there a stairway will take you to down the enchanting ancient seaside town of Camogli. Take an invigorating swim in the sea and try some organic ice cream.

We depart from the glamorous village of Santa Margherita Ligure where we board our sailboat. The skipper begins to explain to us what techniques are involved in mastering the boat. We sail to Punta Chiappa, where we have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters of the Ligurian Sea, which are particularly clear in this stretch of coastline. We continue following the main winds, with our captain teaching us how to manage the control of the sailboat in the open sea. We reach Camogli late in the morning; after visiting this ancient and tiny fishing village we can stop for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon we sail to the bay of San Fruttuoso, where there is the famous statue of Christ of the Abyss, located at a depth of 17 meters. On the way back we sail to Portofino, where from the sea we can see first the dramatic, rocky cliffs, the beautiful houses and the village's tiny harbor, after which we return to Santa Margherita Ligure.

At the end of the path, reach the elegant resort of Portofino. On the way back, follow the coastal road to Santa Margherita Ligure to visit the town. Depending on our schedule and energy by the end of the tour, you can opt to head back to Recco by train, or ride back into town.
