Full description
Our excursion will begin when our guides pick you up at the meeting point early in the morning to arrive as soon as possible at the Lakes of Covadonga and make the most of the day. Before going up to the Basilica, we will stop at the Mirador de Entrelagos and enjoy the wonderful views it offers us of Lake Ercina and Lake Enol. Our guide will make the experience complete by explaining the history of the first national park in Spain. It is a perfect place to take photos, although it will be difficult to capture in an image everything that your eyes see and you feel. Then we will continue until we reach the Basilica of Covadonga, a truly impressive building, made with stone extracted from the mountains of Covadonga. Its purpose was to represent the patriotism and the Catholic faith of the Spanish after the victory of Don Pelayo in the battle of the reconquest. We will also see the Cueva de la Virgen de Covadonga or La Cuevona, where the carving of the Virgin of Covadonga or La Santina is found, patron saint of all Asturians and the indisputable symbol of this Natural Paradise that is Asturias. Then we will stop for lunch in Cangas de Onís, a small but very charming city where the options to taste typical Asturian dishes or anything else are many and varied. Do not forget to accompany the meal with some good culines of cider, our particular magic potion. You will have two hours of free time to explore the city, and from Buendía Tours we recommend you visit the Roman Bridge with the Victoria Cross that you will have seen so much during your visit to Asturias, the peculiar bell tower of the Church of Santa María while you walk through its arcades, and its cobbled streets. The return by bus will allow you to rest from this long day in which the 5 senses have clearly been the protagonists and in which we have taught you a little piece of the history of our Principality of Asturias. We will be in Gijón around 7:00 p.m. If you are staying in Cangas de Onís and want to forget about complications, you can also join the group by reserving our excursion to Los Lagos de Covadonga from Cangas de Onis.
