Cardiff: Ghosts of Llandaff Self-Guided Audio Tour

5. Cardiff: Ghosts of Llandaff Self-Guided Audio Tour

Follow the forgotten but, in places, ancient pathways which lie behind Llandaff Cathedral. Isolated, atmospheric, and away from modern urban Cardiff, they are filled with mystery, atmosphere, legend and ghost stories. It is no wonder. In places these paths were ancient Celtic trade routes, or medieval roadways. They are filled with strange and sometimes spine chilling tales of ghosts and phantoms, still being witnessed and reported in modern times. In places the atmosphere can become strange, overwhelming, even sinister, especially in the dark seclusion of night! This tour follows a circular route taking you along a mysterious and atmospheric wooded lane, the scene of many ghostly experiences, before following the riverbank where more ghostly encounters and legends are told. The route turns back towards the Cathedral for more tales, and culminates in the old abandoned and overgrown woodland graveyard, with its intense atmosphere and ghostly tales. The stories are highlights from The Llandaff Ghost Walk, which I researched, created and operated under the name of “Cardiff History and Hauntings” from 2009-2019, and whose tales form part of a new book scheduled for publication in 2020. The Llandaff Ghost Walk captured media attention locally and nationally and welcomed thousands of participants from all over the world. Every tale you hear on this tour has been faithfully researched and retold and when, in the second half of the tour, I share with you my own personal ghostly experiences of this place, I can assure you that my accounts are honest and faithful, whatever it was being experienced at the time. I cannot of course guarantee that you will experience a ghost on this tour. However, I hope that you find it intriguing, captivating and, in places, as spine chilling as I did when I walked these paths, in the night, in the dark!

Beer Babe Crawl for special occasion

6. Beer Babe Crawl for special occasion

Their main duty is to order and serve your party with the drinks for the night. You will need to collect a kitty first (if applicable – if you are providing the drinks yourself this won’t be necessary) and then the girls will use this money to buy you drinks at whatever venue you are at. They will keep you fully informed of any money spent, provide full receipts and let you know when you’re kitty is running low. Alternatively, our Beer Babes can just order rounds at a time, if this is what you would prefer. Basically, they will fit in with your needs and ensure you don’t have to worry about queuing at bars or struggling with trays full of drinks! Think of our Beer Babes as your own private serving staff, but with looks and personalities that only add to the fun of your big night!

Cardiff: Self-Guided Audio Tour of Bay and Barrage

7. Cardiff: Self-Guided Audio Tour of Bay and Barrage

Cardiff is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, which has been shaped by residents and visitors alike. On this walking tour around some of Cardiff Bay’s most famous landmarks, you’ll hear the stories of those people, and the legacies they have left. You’ll also discover how an extraordinary vision transformed Cardiff Bay into a fascinating and popular tourist destination. Starting on Cardiff’s vibrant modern waterfront, this tour highlights the importance of Cardiff Dock during the industrial revolution. Having lived in and around the city all my life, I’ve witnessed several extraordinary changes that have taken place here. Working in tourism has allowed me to access places that the public don’t always get to visit, and given me a wealth of information that I’m delighted to share with you. Highlights on this tour include hearing about: • The Norwegian Church and why there were so many Norwegian sailors in Cardiff • How Tiger Bay got its name • What an Italian man and Flatholm Island have to do with safety at sea • The Story of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his connection to the city • Pit Ponies in the coal mines • Cardiff’s most unusual accommodation block • Cardiff Bay Barrage control and locks This tour is a valuable introduction to Cardiff’s bay and barrage, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local who’s curious to learn more about the city. There are plenty of cafes at either end of the route for a quick (or lengthy) stop, so allow at least an hour for this walk.

What people are saying about Cardiff

Gillian, a lovely local lady, picked me up at my hotel on time. We strolled through the city. She showed me many gems I would have not discovered on my own. Gillian has a broad knowledge on Welsh culture, history and cuisine. Gillian also added some extra-time as she wanted to show me everything I was interested in. She also gave me amazing recommendations for other activities and restaurants. I would absolutely book with Gillian again. Thank you and until next time! Cheers, Thomas
