From Bangkok: Holy Tattoo Experience at Wat Bang Phra

1. From Bangkok: Holy Tattoo Experience at Wat Bang Phra

Wat Bang Phra is a Buddhist monastery, approximately 50 kilometers west of Bangkok. The temple is known for its daily tattoos, or Sak Yant, given by the local monks. This tradition of tattooing dates back hundreds of years. The Gao Yord Yant or 9 Spires Yant is a sacred tattoo, believed to protect and bring good luck to the bearer. This has a similar meaning to another Sak Yant design, the Hah Taew Yant. The Gao Yord Yant is usually tattooed on the nape of the neck. The 9 Spires Yant is a geometric design and represents the 9 Sacred Peaks of Mount Meru. It contains 9 symbolic images of Buddha, demonstrating how important the number 9 is in Buddhism. This experience is truly unique in Thailand as the monks are only giving a holy tattoo and blessings to very few number of people per day. During this trip, there will be an English speaking guide who will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel in downtown Bangkok with an air-conditioned vehicle. The guide will explain to you the details of ceremony along the way and make sure that everything goes smoothly.

What people are saying about Central Thailand

Pim's explanations were full of insights and it was truly amazing to learn some Thai culture that I probably wouldn't have learnt otherwise. It was a little fast pase with not so much time for taking photos, so it would definitely work for those looking to learn rather than take their time to take pictures.

We missed the first trip due to traffic, was so easy to call up and rebook for the later tour! Such an interesting tour- Mam was lovely. She even managed to get us into the temple although it had gone over slightly past closing- would recommend 100% to know extra information about each part of the temples.

I did my tour at 10 February 08:30am. Probably because it was early in the morning, I was by myself. My guide was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions that I asked. Also she gave me additional informations about Thai culture which was very nice to learn. I would definitely recommend.

Very nice to be guided around the tempels and get some insights to Thailand, the temples and their history. Included a coconut and some sweet potato balls and a ferry ride to the other side of the canal. Lovely guide, Mam.

Thank you to our tour guide. He was very helpful and gave detailed stories and history of the Temples. It was fun! And, also, thank you for the free Buko Juice.♥️
