Chania: 20 Minute Paragliding Tandem Flight

2. Chania: 20 Minute Paragliding Tandem Flight

Upon arriving at the take-off area, take some time to enjoy the beautiful views. Your pilot will begin to prepare the glider, while constantly and thoroughly checking the weather conditions. Watch him unfold the glider and deal with the hundreds of lines — a routine procedure for him. Then, gear up, putting your harness and helmet on. As your pilot prepares, he'll tell you a few things you need to know about the experience and describe how you'll feel in the air, so as to make the transition into flight easier on you. As the passenger, you'll go in front, connected to the pilot who will control the glider. He'll inflate the glider, and all you have to do is run a few steps forward. 3, 4, and you're off. There are no words to describe the feeling of flying over Chania, a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. When you are close to the ground, you and your pilot will land softly, jogging a few steps forward as you come into contact with the ground. In rare cases, weather might make your landing a little faster. In this case, you'll experience a bum landing. Your instructor is equipped to handle this special landing and any other issue that may arise.

From Souda Port of Chania: Private Sailing Cruise with Meal

3. From Souda Port of Chania: Private Sailing Cruise with Meal

At 9:30 AM sail east out of the bay past the Souda Fortress on a small uninhabited island. If the winds are favorable stop to take a dip or some photos at the pebbled beach of the scenic white chapel of Agiannis. Follow the coast on the wind and marvel at views of the Ottoman fort high up on the hills and the fort of the Idjedin prison just below it. Continue past the seaside villages of Kalyves and Almyrida, around the Isle of Karga before reaching the lighthouse on the peninsula of Drapano. Again, if the gods of the winds are with you the boat will anchor in a tiny, secret cove for another quick swim. The wind will dictate if the boat sails northeast to a very small cove with beautiful sandy waters or otherwise northwest around another small island to a beautiful lagoon. Either way, the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) will be in view, serving as the backdrop to the cruise. After dropping anchor, enjoy a swim or snorkel and play in crystal clear turquoise waters while a freshly cooked Cretan/Spartan lunch is prepared with Greek specialties such as local pasta, sautéed vegetables, fresh salad, mama’s olives, goat cheese and fresh bread with wine and beer to wash it down and a dessert of fresh yogurt and sweet fruit.  Following a relaxing meal sail back to the port as the sun starts to set, arriving back by around 5:30 PM. Even if you’ve never sailed before have a go at taking control of the boat with expert supervision for a roughly 30 nautical mile trip.

Chania: Discover the Religious Heritage Of Apokoronas

6. Chania: Discover the Religious Heritage Of Apokoronas

The province of Apokoronas stretches from the foothills of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) to the northern coast of the island. Dynamic water routes form a region rich in vegetation of various kinds. Apokoronas has preserved the traditional character of its villages that constitute a living core of modern rural life. The whole history of its countryside, along with the history of Christian worship, is reflected in its churches that will be the focus of your tour. You will encounter exceptional examples of art and architecture situated in unique natural beauty. Your first stop will be a small Byzantine church in the middle of nowhere, almost caped by trees and plants around. It is located in a landscape of exceptional beauty, surrounded by vineyards and a rare Cretan oak. This type of the church is a typical example of pure Byzantine architecture and testifies to the radiation of the tradition of Constantinople even into the distant corners of the empire. You will also find traces of early worship in another church in a nearby village. Although the standing building dates back to the 15th century, the recent excavations inside indicate that worship began in the 8th century. See the excavation inside the church and discuss its relations with the great monasteries of Greece and the monastic tradition that was formed in the area. A symbol of the Cretan effort in their struggle against the Venetians is a glorious church at the foothills of the White Mountains. Its founder is the Emperor of Nicaea, John Vatatzis, who hastened to prevent the conqueror of the island. The exceptional frescoes within date back to the 13th century and represents a high quality example of painting. The tour will be completed in the exceptional beauty of a hidden church in one of the most charming villages of Apokoronas. Built in the 13th century, the church is a modern pilgrimage demonstrating that faith in this place is an ongoing feeling. Then, enjoy traditional local cuisine at a local kafeneion (tapas taverna) located in the unique square of a typical Cretan village, where you will find an expression of daily local life as the last satisfaction for your senses on this tour.

Cretan South Coast: Private Adventure Tour

10. Cretan South Coast: Private Adventure Tour

Get out of town and venture off the beaten path to the southern coast of Crete. You’ll meet your guide and begin your Chania tour by taking a private vehicle towards a local village, away from the usual tourist areas. Upon reaching the small sleepy village by sea, you will start your adventure with a light organic breakfast with local products. Then, you will kick off your walk to the ancient city of Lissos. After an easy trail in the shaded palm trees, you can walk up a hill that boasts amazing views of the gorge beneath and the sea in the distance. Where the rocks meet the sea, you will find the ruins of the ancient Asclepieion (a healing temple dedicated to god Asclepius) built in the 3rd century B.C. This walk is fairly easy and along a trail. It will take about 90 minutes (including stops), with elevations of 250m upwards and almost 400m down. Once you reach the historic city of Lissos, you will have an hour to walk amongst the ruins and drink from the gushing healing spring water at the foundation of the Asclepieion - the reason Lissos was so famous in the ancient world. Then, we will embark on a fishing boat from the small peddled beach to continue your exploration of the south coast. In half an hour you will arrive at a sandy beach with fine pebbles. You have two hours to dive into the crystal clear waters or relax under the sun with some fresh fruit. Next stop is a quaint remote village where you’ll enjoy a 3-course farm-to-table local menu with local wine. In the evening, before you depart for Chania, you can independently explore the promenade, as well as the streets in the coastal town of Paleochora. By the end of the day, you will have explored a unique and unspoiled region in Crete away from the usual tourist spots.

This is a must do in Chania if you want to have a bucket list experience. Yannis is so helpful and kind and makes you feel totally safe and secure during take off, flying and landing. The drive up to the take off is also spectacular. One note - if you tend to get motion sickness i.e. in a car or boat - paragliding has the same effect. Ensure to take medication pre-flight for the best experience. Thank you Yannis!!!

Sublime flight with Yannis (15 years of experience) and his extremely nice colleague. The duration of the flight was long. My partner still has plenty of eyes on him and memories are in his head. Top top top.

Excellent tour by Roussos. We have been to Chania many times, but he showed us so many new sights and amazing special street food we would never have found ourselves. Jim and Fran

What a day!! Captain Nikos was amazing. He made us feel very comfortable. I would HIGHLY recommend this trip to anyone who wants to have a wonderful, relaxing day on the water.

We enjoyed seeing the old town and the market, as well as trying local cuisine. A good change from the beach excursions.
