2. From Kyiv: Chernihiv Day Trip

Chernihiv’s golden age was the 12th and early 13th century. A major center of culture in Old Rus, Chernihiv rivaled Kyiv in the territory and might. The city had close commercial ties with many lands of Old Rus, the Byzantine Empire, and Western Europe. Chernigiv’s jewelers and gunsmiths were famous for their high-quality jewelry, weapons, dishes and bowls, and their silverware was especially popular. Today, the best examples of these articles are exhibited in many museums of Ukraine and Chernihiv.  Staggering buildings are preserved throughout the city from the 11th-13th centuries. Located on the territory of the medieval citadel, also called the Rampart, is the oldest monument of 11th century Old Rus architecture, standing among other impressive ones. Indeed, the main places of interest are in the architectural and historic conservation areas, preserving monuments from ancient Russian times, described in the poem "The Lay of Igor's Warfare", (referring to Piatnitska Church from the 12th century),  the Ukrainian Baroque Kateriniska Church from the18th century), St. Sofia Cathedral in Kyiv, Spaso-Preobrazhenskyi Cathedral (11th century). Also, Borysohlebskyi cathedral (12th century) Chernigivskyi Collegiums (18th century), Yeletskyi Convent, and Caves of Antnonii (17th century). There will be free time for lunch after the tour at a local cafe.
