Ertunga from Felicity Travel was very helpful and flexible. He worked with me to customize the tour to fit my schedule. The places on the visited were amazing. Although the scheduled went like clockwork, I had plenty of time at each location to see the sites and understand the importance/history of each place. The guides such as Özgür and Ali were very knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly. Especially Özgür went above and beyond to make sure that I had a very good experience. • Istanbul: Off-the-Beaten-Track Museums Tour

    4. Istanbul: Off-the-Beaten-Track Museums Tour

Your first stop will be the Suleymaniye Mosque, which was built on the order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and constructed by the great Ottoman architect Sinan. The construction work began in 1550 and the mosque was finished in 1557. The mosque is modeled in part on the style of a Byzantine basilica, particularly the Hagia Sophia, which was perhaps a conscious move on the part of the sultan to create a continuity and a symbolic connection with the city's past. Driving along the city walls will end at one of the oldest and most important churches in the city, the Church of Chora, which has fascinating wall paintings telling the life of Christ in an historical order. Even though the building itself is small, the meaning was great for Byzantines as being found at the borders of the city and welcoming the visitors. Today the environment is restored and this is a good place to spend tim...

What people are saying about Chora Church

A fantastic day!

The tour started on time. I did not had to wait. On the tour I was the only person, so it was very special. The tour guide answert all of my questions and told me a lot about the culture. Also she was a very nice young person, so I liked the tour. If you are a Christian you should not be surpriced about all the sits taken over by other religions. There is not much left of Christianity. However you can see many monasteries and a grave yard. Because of the time in year most of the time we were nearly the only visitors in the different monasteries. By chance I also saw a Turkish mariage which was just luck. The tour guide got me into the ceremony which was awsome. Finally I got a cup of wine to tast ;-). It was perfectly organised with pic up and drop off service.

Very interesting tour in a small group, which we did after visiting the main sights in the center. We had the same tour guide all day and were a rather small group, which leaves more time and space for questions. The choice of sights was good for us, especially to the absolutely worth seeing Chora Church you probably would not have driven alone. The boat tour on the Bosphorus was great, although we had really great weather. For lunch there were Köfte, which I personally found rather medium, but that was rather a minor matter on the tour. Overall recommendable!
