Krakow: Princes Czartoryski Museum Ticket and Guided Tour

1. Krakow: Princes Czartoryski Museum Ticket and Guided Tour

Visit one of Poland’s oldest museums, The Princes Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, on this guided tour. Discover its permanent exhibitions, among which the most well-known painting is the 500-year-old 'Lady with an Ermine' by Leonardo da Vinci. Meet your guide and head over to the 'Lady with an Ermine' portrait. Learn the story of how it came to be a part of Krakow's history when, in 1800, Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski bought it as a present for his mother, Queen Isabella.  Appreciate the painting’s many qualities and da Vinci’s high standard of artistry in a live setting. Some things to definitely observe include the eyes, the shading on the neck which give the woman a 3D appearance, the blue of her dress, the pose, and more elements you can only experience first-hand.  Uncover some of the mystery and intrigue around the backstory of the lady in the portrait, an educated noblewoman called Cecilia Gallerani.  Apart from this highlight of the Museum, explore the equally immersive permanent exhibitions like the 'Landscape with the Good Samaritan' painting by Rembrandt van Rijn and other paintings, sculptures, and applied arts. Explore a huge collection of souvenirs showcasing Polish history.

2. Krakow: Czartoryski Museum Tour / Entrance with Krakow Card

The "Lady with an Ermine" portrait embodies the Renaissance ideal of an image as an illusion of natural vitality. Da Vinci managed to achieve this thanks to his detailed knowledge of anatomy, and his skill with light features. Combining these he was able to create a three-dimensional figure on the image plane. The original background, which was painted over in black in the 19th century, was also modeled with light just like the figure, which must have added to the impression of the model emerging from the shadows. The painting was purchased in Italy in around 1800 by Adam Jerzy, the son of Princess Izabela Czartoryska, and later donated to the Museum in Puławy. The portrait became the property of the Republic of Poland in 2016. Absolutely worth the visit! Our guide was very kind and kept surprising us with interesting stories about the art in this musuem. The highlight was The Lady with an Ermine, which felt surreal to see live. There were also other astonishing paintings (Rembrandt for example) and much more to see and hear about in the musuem. Absolutely recommend going with a guide - you will learn much more

Highly recommended card, because it allowed us to enter the Czartoryski Museum even though the tickets were sold out. Then we used it to skip the line and enter all museums including, highly recommended

Great experience! An Art Museum that you should visit while in Krakow! Masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt made enormous effects. Great English-speaking guide who told an interesting story.
