From Salzburg: Half-Day Tour to Hallstatt

1. From Salzburg: Half-Day Tour to Hallstatt

Embark on a half-day scenic tour through the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt. See the town of Hallstatt on a guided tour and explore at your own pace after. Admire the Mullbach waterfall and the Bone House. Start the trip from Salzburg with a drive through the famous Salzkammergut en route to Hallstatt, known as the Pearl of the Salzkammergut. The route will take you through a number of charming villages, as you listen to an introduction to Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut. If you wish to do the Hallstatt Skywalk, the guide will collect the money for the ticket on the bus.  On arrival in Hallstatt, you might begin your visit with a mountain train ride up to the entrance of the world’s oldest salt mines (though the tour does not visit the mine itself), where you can admire the views down onto Hallstatt.  In Hallstatt you will have 2.5 hours to take in the sights. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling onto the mountainside. Pass by the Mullbach waterfall and visit the local museum. A must-see attraction is the Bone House behind the Catholic church, which will give you an interesting view into local family life (admission not included). You’ll then begin the return journey via Abtenau and Russbach to Gosau, where you’ll see the Gosau Lake and admire the views of the Dachtsein mountains.

What people are saying about Dachstein

Great tour! Was originally weary because of the predicted rain/thunderstorms all day. While it was cloudy, the mountains actually blocked the rain so it never hit! Beautiful views from the top of the cable car, even on a cloudy day. Perfect amount of time (2.5 hours) in Hallstat. I did the cable car to the skywalk and took about 30-45 minutes up there before heading down to explore the town. It is beautiful! If you walk a few hundred meters past the catholic church, look back and you actually get the iconic view of the town. Food options are subpar and expensive but that's to expect in a small tourist town. Bus to and from Hallstat was comfortable, and the driver was very helpful and engaging!

It was a great and interesting trip, although a bit expensive. One tip- you can access skywalk via 20-30 min. hike trail, we moved up with funicular and afterwards went down on foot, but here’s a catch- the guide is taking money in advance for round-trip funicular tickets, although you can certainly buy them yourselves for one way.

Great tour out to Hallstatt from Salzburg. The views from the bus are unreal and Hallstatt was an amazing little town

Amazing place on earth, felt like we are living a dream for few hours. Well organised tour.

Magnificent landscapes, to do absolutely, too bad there were no explanations in French
