Puerto Plata: Damajagua Waterfalls Full-Day Adventure

3. Puerto Plata: Damajagua Waterfalls Full-Day Adventure

Enjoy an unforgettable adventure at the waterfalls of Damajagua in the Dominican Republic, located at the confluence of emerald waters, deep in a tropical rainforest of the Cordillera Septentrional. 27 refreshing waterfalls have been chiseled by Mother Nature’s celestial mallet. Ideal for visitors who like to commune with nature, while experiencing an adrenaline-fuelled day, you will hop on the back of a safari-style truck, where a team of experienced guides and drivers await. Note that only 12 of the 27 waterfalls will be visited, since doing the 27 waterfalls would take greater physical preparation. After a short safety briefing, glide across the natural water springs, bathing in heavenly caves. Flanked by the whistling of exotic birdlife, and the banks of the Damajagua River, the rustling of the streams arouse a state of stillness. A labyrinth of tunnels and chutes are scattered around the waterfalls, some reaching heights of up to 13 feet. Somersault with the grace of aquatic birds, as your guide keep a watchful eye. Walk an interpretative rainforest trail to come face-to-face with Mother Earth, and wildlife waits to be greeted. Leap headfirst, swimming crossways, and sliding down natural waterslides. Explore unpredictable falls, with teasing names like “La Virgen” and “La Tinajita.” “La Virgen” holds Taino legends, where the aborigines built a statue of pebbles that paid homage to the Virgin of Altagracia, perhaps becoming the first worshippers of the Patron Saint of the Dominican people. After a typical buffet-style lunch, head towards the small town of Imbert and visit a local market where you can purchase artisan products and crafts bearing a distinct Dominican hallmark.

What people are saying about Damajagua

It was an amazing experience, with adrenalin. I loved this activity. The picking up was accurate. The guides were very cool, funny, friendly and informative. We felt fresh and full of energy in the end. The jumps were scary but the guides motivated and encouraged us. The whole trip was fantastic. One thing was just negative: they offer photos and videos, which we can order for 50 dollars. We bought the photos, but they were bad quality, and from the videos our jumps were cutted out or just not recorded. So it doesn't worth to order this service, it's better to take your phone in a waterproof case (it is also allowed). In the end we complained and got back the money, so they're really gast oriented.

An incredibly great excursion that you have to have done! The pick-up at our hotel worked great, when we arrived at the ranch we were warmly welcomed by the owner. There were lockers ($2-3) and a briefing on the daily routine. Then the harnesses and the helmet were put on and off we went to the ziplines, which was great fun! Afterwards, peaceful horses were ridden through the countryside and a delicious lunch followed. This was followed by a 15 minute transfer to the falls followed by a 40 minute climb (strenuous but doable). Here you could jump, slide or climb down a ladder in 5 places - the cold water came just right! Just super beautiful!

We were at the waterfalls today and are thrilled. The tour guides were punctual and reliable. On the way to the waterfalls there was a little coffee tasting and a trip to a souvenir shop. Although only 7 waterfalls can currently be visited, the thrill is still worth the tour!

Chael & Eric were AMAZING guides! There were some people on the excursion who could not swim and were afraid but they made sure they felt safe and also experienced the fun! Highly recommend!

Flying the zip lines and jumping down the falls was a great experience
