Dublin's Haunted History Walking Tour

3. Dublin's Haunted History Walking Tour

Looking for a spookily thrilling adventure? You've come to the right place! On this 2-hour walking tour of Dublin, you will see that while most of Dublin’s grisly past has been left behind, not every character has decided to pass over into the next world. The Emerald Isle is known as being one of the most haunted countries on the planet, with many of the world's most famous supernatural characters and stories finding their roots in the city's collective lore. Each wave of human culture from the Celts to the Protestant ascendancy has left a mark on the city's haunted history, and it is this diversity which makes Dublin’s other-worldly folklore so fascinating. Today, you'll be led through the eerie, cobblestoned streets as we hear tales from the underbelly of this city. These include the burning of 18th century madam Darkey "The Witch" Kelly, the tragic tale of The Green Lady of St. Audoen’s, and how Dublin's "Hell" got its name. As you walk, you will learn of the period in which The Dolocher stalked our streets and you will hear tales of the mysterious 18th century Hellfire Club and its dark origins. Your expert tour guides–associated with PSI Ireland (Paranormal Study and Investigation)–have all the capital's most haunting stories to share!

Northside Ghost Walking Tour in Dublin

4. Northside Ghost Walking Tour in Dublin

With its vast and turbulent history, it is not surprising that Dublin is one of the most haunted cities in the world. Beware! Those of a nervous disposition may be left feeling just a little bit spooked! You will discover the site of Saint Mary’s Abbey; one of the most powerful Irish monastic settlements in medieval times, and now just a small ruin down an alleyway, passed by thousands of oblivious commuters every day. If you are feeling brave enough, we will take a walk down Hendrick Street, once the site of two of the most haunted houses in Dublin. Between number 7 and 8 Hendrick Street lived no fewer than 6 different ghosts. You might want to steel your nerves before venturing with us to Croppie’s Acre. This long-abandoned site was used as a football pitch in the 20th century, but underneath is a mass grave – the final resting place of hundreds of rebels executed in the 1798 rebellion. You will also hear tell of the mummies of Saint Michan’s Church, surely the most macabre tourist attraction in Ireland, and a major inspiration to the young Bram Stoker, native of Clontarf and author of Dracula. Whether you’re a native Dubliner or a visitor from far a field, come with us and discover what lies beneath.

Fantastic tour! I do recommend this one to give you a good orientation or deeper understanding of Dublins history. Was really interesting to hear about the different stories about spots around Dublin. Its not super scary or anything, just some good tales about the parts of history and spooky stories you wouldn’t hear about at school. Following the tour we learnt of some cool places to visit during the day, which we could view with more knowledge making the place more interesting. Shout out to the guide Katie or Kate? - did a really good job with tour!

Fun and full of history facts you've never heard! Our main lead, 'Grim', and cohort whose real name is Lea, along with driver Pete provided an excellent evening of fun! However... there was no HEAT! Everyone was cold, including them. Loved the tricks up their sleeves! Beware... there are strobe lights, but just let them know when you get on board and they will happily turn them off if they negatively affect you.

It was amazing!! We shuddered, laughed, chatted. The girls were really good in their role, they kept us captivated and were also hilarious!! Thoroughly enjoyed!! Highly recommended!

It’s a fun walk around Dublin with interesting stories. We usually prefer day time walking tours, but this fit our schedule better and did not disappoint

Our tour guide was great! I would recommend this to anyone looking for something different and interesting to do at night.
