Full description
This 90 minute cycle tour avoids Edinburgh’s traffic & offers panoramic views of the city, coast & countryside. If you want to sightsee or walk up Artur's Seat it is usual possible to accommodate such requests. Starting from Blackfriars Street turn left into Cowgate & go straight through the first traffic lights & into Holyrood Road. Continue towards the New Scottish Parliament & Dynamic Earth. Turn right at The Scotsman Building & cycle towards Holyrood Park. Cross road with care into park by Dynamic Earth & continue riding along cycle path going to the left. This path passes Holyrood Palace & St Margaret’s Loch with ruins of St Anthony’s Chapel. Turn right & go up hill immediately after the water’s end. This is the start of the ascent up Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano & Edinburgh’s highest peak. The steep ascent is well worth the effort, with magnificent views. Secure your bikes at the car park near Dunsapie Loch at the top of road & climb to the summit & back (45 mins walk), if you want. Return to the bikes and cycle on down towards Salisbury Crags with wonderful views of Edinburgh Castle & The Old Town. Turn left at both the first & second mini roundabouts and cycle down the road by Duddingston Loch & the ancient church.  The peaceful ‘secret garden’ (Dr Neil’s Garden) is in the grounds of Duddingston Manse, next to church, which is well worth visiting. Return to the Edinburgh town center along the Innocent Railway Cycle Path which brings you back to Holyrood Park or, by passing through a long tunnel, return via the busy St Leonard’s Road & Pleasance which also brings you back to Cowgate again. If there is time at the end of the tour you might also take in Grassmarket before returning to Blackfriars Street.

Get away from the crowds & see more of this beautiful city

Our guide was Peter, who is a little disorganized but over compensates with his interest in both the city itself & those taking the tour. He has a number of great facts & stories. The tour takes you away from the maddening crowd & you get to see many vantage points & the city through the lovely parks.

Excellent, affordable e-bike escape with colourful guide!

Peter was so fun and knowledgable. He was incredibly flexible with our agenda and generous with his time. The bike shop was across the side street from the address given so we were at first confused but he was watching for us so it was fine. I learned a lot about the city and enjoying the peaceful views after all the castle crowds was so refreshing. We loved the electric assisted bike. It doesn't run by itself so you still get a workout but it helps a LOT! I couldn't have made it to Arthur's Seat without it. Great value for the rate and highly recommended.

I'm afraid our E-Bike tour was a bit of a comedy of errors. We booked it online at about 9:00am for a tour due to start at 15:00 in the afternoon. However for some reason the guide at the bike shop had no idea that anyone was booked so the E-bikes were not fully charged. The tour started OK but when we got to the bottom of the road leading half way up to Arthur's seat, the tour guide said his battery had gone flat, so he abandoned us and left us to cycle up the mountain road on our own, promising to meet us at the first roundabout when we had followed the road all the way up and round and back to the bottom again. Unfortunately he was not waiting at the roundabout when we got back down. To make matters worse it started to get dark by then (December in Edinburgh Scotland) and the E-bikes had no lights. So after waiting for half an hour at the roundabout we had to make our own way back to the E-bike shop by retracing our route.
