Full description
A warm welcome awaits you in Speyside, home to more than half of Scotland's malt whiskey distilleries. You’ll have a chance to sample the whiskey and enjoy the magnificent scenery of Cairngorm, Speyside and Royal Deeside. Day 1: Head north through the Kingdom of Fife to Lindores Abbey Distillery. This modern Scottish distillery is built on the site of the first-ever recorded distillery in the country. After lunch in Pitlochry, sample the delights of Scotland's highest distillery at Dalwhinnie, near the source of the River Spey. Once you’ve warmed with this dram of “the gentle spirit”, continue through the Cairngorms National Park before reaching Grantown on Spey - your base for 2 nights. Day 2: Enjoy a whole day exploring Scotland’s most famous whiskey region. After a scenic drive towards the coast, make your first stop of the day at the family-owned Benromach Distillery. Travel back up the Spey River to Craigellachie for a visit to the Speyside Cooperage*, where you see another aspect of the whiskey-making process. After lunch in nearby Aberlour, visit Cardhu Distillery, which is the first distillery pioneered by a woman, Helen Cumming. Today, Cardhu is the most important whisky in Johnnie Walker Black Label. From here, travel back to Grantown on Spey. *Speyside Cooperage is only visited on Monday and Wednesday departures. Day 3: In the morning visit Glenlivet, which is both a distillery and a beautiful glen with serene walks and wonderful wildlife. Then, enjoy the majesty of Royal Deeside. Pass by Balmoral Castle, and stop in the village of Braemar in the heart of the National Park. From here, the route south passes over Scotland’s highest mountain pass, through Perthshire, and back to Edinburgh.

Al is the best!

Al kept us entertained, educated, well fed and rested - as well as booking us on some interesting distillery tours and tastings, photo opps, rest stops and short walks. My only suggestion is only to do with the distilleries: consider options of tastings and modified tours. It only takes one distillery tour to learn the process, the distilleries can focus on their differences during a seated lesson and tasting.

Nice trip with more than whiskey!

We did the trip on a weekend. Was really nice. You drive with a minibus for like 8 hours, but with stops every 30-60 minutes. The bus mostly stops at nice points of interest like a waterfall or the centre of scotland. The stops are like 10-15 mins mostly so you can stetch your legs and take some photos. During the drives the driver often gives interesting insights about scotland and the surroundings. Our driver, Al, was also really funny. The distilleries are all really nice. You have to pay for the entry, but often you get discounts. Also the entry is 6 to 10 pounds mostly. The accommodation was really good. Nice hosts and good rooms. The breakfast was delicious.

Informative, entertaining, loads of fun.

Our guide, MacKenzie, made the trip! He kept us entertained the entire time we were on the bus, whether he was recounting a bit of history, passing on some folklore or playing Scottish music and singing along. We had a terrific time touring a uniquely beautiful part of the world. I recommend this tour for all adults, whiskey drinker or not. And the overnight accommodations were incredible.
