This was our second time back to the Borghese but the first time with a guide -- which we would recommend for first-timers. Seth was excellent: knowledgeable, personable, and clearly passionate about art. Although the focus was, as anticipated, on Bernini, other important works also noted and explained. We enjoyed the small group experience, especially as it was easier to manage in a crowd (Christmas-New Year-Epiphany holiday time).
Our two-hour tour of the Borghese Gallery was very impressive. There are many masterpieces to see and our guide did a great job of showing us the most important in the two-hour window that the Gallery gives to all visitors. (At the end of the two hours they clear the Gallery of all visitors so that the next group can come in.)
The guide (Alexander I believe) was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic that the visit, my second, was exceptional. The one issue is that the tour was not 3 hours but 2 hours. The other couple with us also had concerns that they had paid for a 3 hour tour and got a 2 hour tour.
This gallery if so full of art that one hardly knows where to turn or what to look at. Our guide was so full of information and answered every question we asked with knowledge and enthusiasm.
Great guide. It is an efficient way to go through the gallery given the 2 hour time limit. Her expertise on the art was enlightening. Would not hesitate to recommend the guide or the tour.
