4. From Sorrento: Herculaneum Skip-the-Line Tour

Herculaneum was an ancient Roman town situated in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, submerged under a torrent of mud and lava after Mount Vesuvius' eruption in 79 AD. The buildings have been so well-kept that you can walk down the streets pretty much exactly as the Romans would have done over 2000 years ago! There are still original timbers in the buildings and clay pots stored as they would have been at the time of the eruption. Together with your guide, you’ll visit many of the most important sites such as the public baths with their well-preserved frescoes and mosaics, shops and the gymnasium. A tour of possibly one of the best preserved examples of a Roman residential town in the world, brought to life by the years of study and knowledge ofarchaeologists.

What people are saying about Ercolano

We had very knowlegable, helpful and friendly guide. We thought that this trip with private car and guide is expensive but it was worth it. The only critical comment: we'd prefer to be told that Herculaneum was closed earlier then on the morning we started our trip. But we appreciated that our guide quickly organized a replacement trip to mount Vesuv. The driver was also very good and the car comfortable.

One of the best experiences of our trip to Naples. Our driver had infinite patience, was super punctual and attentive and took us to a spectacular place to eat. Our guide made it phenomenal, super enjoyable and entertaining. The tour is 100% recommended!

Easy pickup from hotel and on time. Group size was not too big. Bottled water provided. Tour guide was excellent and we learned a lot about the Herculaneum.
