From Glasgow: Outlander Day Tour

1. From Glasgow: Outlander Day Tour

Meet at 8:45 AM before making your way to the beautiful village of Culross where you will stay for 30 minutes. Culross was the filming location for the black kirk, Crainemuir and the gardens of Castle Leoch.  Afterwards, make your way to the historic town of Falkland which was Inverness in the show. Stay here for 1.5 hours as this is also the lunch stop. Here, you have an excellent choice of cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Then, make your way to the impressive Doune Castle, the MacKenzie Castle. On the journey, you will pass through the beautiful Perthshire countryside. On arrival at the castle, you will be given 1 hour to explore.  It is now time for the piece de resistance as you embark on the trip towards Midhope Castle, otherwise known as Lallybroch in Outlander. Midhope Castle sits on the private Hopetoun Estate. It is a ruin and great care must be taken to enjoy your visit as not to disturb the residents and businesses. You will stay here for approximately 20 minutes and there is a donation box on the site. It is not always possible to visit due to the nature of activities on the estate but you will be informed of changes as soon as they are received.  As per the books and TV series, you then make your way for Blackness Castle. It featured as Fort William in both Season 1 and 2. You will stay at this delightful castle for around 1 hour.  You will then make your way back to Dalmeny, a short distance from the castle before heading back to Glasgow. You will arrive at around 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM depending on traffic.

What people are saying about Falkland

It's a rally between some of the most significant places from the TV-show, but most places are just fantastic to visit and experience regardless of Outlander (maybe except from Jamie's/Sam's voice at Doune ;) ). This is an introduction and inspration to go visit these scenes even further, and what an introduction! The tour-guide - Barry! - was amazing with his wits, extraordinary knowledge and obvious experience with guiding us outlanders from place to place. The program was tight, but very well assembled. Also, the travel company meant a lot, and for me, I was so grateful that I was joined with this day's group. This tour will leave you with an awe and a smile, and a whole lot of impressions to digest.

A must for fans of the series

Unfortunately, I have to admit that we didn't even know the series before the tour and were only fixated on the landscape and castles. That has changed fundamentally. Outlander is going up and down right now. Our tour guide Helmut made the tour very casual and informative. We practically had a private tour because we were the only two tour participants. The locations are also interesting if you haven't seen Outlander yet. Anyone interested in Scotland, Maria Stuart etc. will get their money's worth. The weather? Well, no one can do anything about that and it's not really surprising in Scotland if the sun isn't always shining.

Again and again

Informative, fun, highly recommended. We will be back. We were a group of 8 participants, which was optimal for the trip. Helmut was a great tour guide and was not disturbed by anything, not even by 4 "strenuous" ladies from Germany. Thanks for the great day.

best tour ever...and Jim our guide was wonderful. Told us everything we. had to know about every place we visited. We loved it.

We had a great day!! And our tourgide Barry was amazing!! Even spoke a bit dutch! Thanks for the tour Barry
