From Cairns: AJ Hackett Giant Swing Experience

3. From Cairns: AJ Hackett Giant Swing Experience

Experience the high speeds and acceleration of Australia's only multi-person swing on a giant swing adventure from Cairns. Swoop through the rain forest from a height of 45 meters to 1 meter in just 3.5 seconds. Reach speeds of up to 120km/h. Local legend tells of a saber-toothed rain forest cat that once roamed the hills of Smithfield. The Aboriginals had a name for the creature, which means “Mountain Devil.” They called it the "Minjin." Over a century ago, a local man by the name Stan McGregor was forging a trail through the dense and untouched rain forest of Saddle Mountain. The unforgiving rains of the tropics belted down and the monsoon weather soon saw the bullock driver stranded. On the brink of death, an Aboriginal tribe found him struggling for life and nurtured him back to health. Fear glistened in the eyes of the tribe as they warned the bullock driver not to continue. Determined to carry on, he disappeared into the depths of the unforgiving jungle, never to be seen again. Years later, a timber cutter found a message carved into a worn leather saddle wedged high in the branches of a tree deep in the rain forest. His boots crunched over bone and a harness entangled his feet as he made his way toward the tree. His blood ran cold and his bones shivered as he read the message, “Something is here. Something is stalking me.” He felt eyes watching him as he inched back out of the jungle. Decades passed in the misty rain forest peaks of Smithfield. Strange paw prints have been found and sightings of the shadows of a huge panther like animal have transpired. Shrill cries and ferocious howls have been heard in the distance, but no further traces of the elusive creature have been found. The legend of the "Minjin" was unearthed by AJ Hackett over 20 years ago.

From Port Douglas: Barramundi Pond Fishing with Lunch

4. From Port Douglas: Barramundi Pond Fishing with Lunch

Lure and Land one of Australia's favourite fish. Hook-A-Barra fishing is dedicated to all things Barramundi! We’re for fishing and fun, guiding and teaching, tasting and tempting. Our Barramundi facility is first class and includes viewing tanks, home to some rare Albino, Speckled (or Panda) and Gold Barramundi, fishing ponds, covered tables and seating. We love Barramundi. Growing them, catching them, selling them and eating them. Our Daintree Barramundi fishing tours include 1-hour of catch and release, land-based fishing, around our earthen ponds. Although it’s called the Barra Pond, there’s a few other species in there too, including some monster Mangrove Jacks. Our fish – they’re big – including quite a few which are up to and over 1 metre and while they’re farm raised, they’re still wild creatures with plenty of fight. When there’s ‘Fish On’ get ready for jumping, popping, kick flips and dorsal smashing. Our Daintree Barramundi fishing tours are fun and informative. Whether you’re 5 or 95, we’ll get you hooked with our friendly crew here to lend a helping hand if needed.

What people are saying about Far North Queensland

A must do for family travelers. The 46yo, 40yo, 11yo and 8yo all enjoyed the Zoom activities. We spend a morning doing all activities. It can become quite hot in the dome. We end up going back few days later with the re-entry pass to do the wild life presentations and snake photo. It's in the heart of Cairns on top of Casino building. So every handy for travellers without cars.

This is so much fun for the whole family. Even if your not great with heights you feel safe and the staff are fantastic at making you feel comfortable and confident.
