Day 1: Marrakech, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, and Dades You will meet your guide in Marrakech after breakfast and set off towards the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass along a road that climbs the plains to 2,260 meters above sea level. You will pass by small villages and scenic waterfalls, and will also notice the continuously changing landscape and colors of these beautiful mountains. You will then stop in a pass for a cup of refreshing mint tea and to admire the scenery before taking the road to the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, arriving just in time for lunch. Day 1: Fes, Ifrane, Medilt, and Merzouga Departing from Fes you will begin your ascent through Ifrane, a winter ski resort in a totally un-Moroccan style which was built by the French in the 1930s to resemble a Swiss village. From there you will visit the cedar forest in Azrou, where you will be able to view the local monkeys. Following that, you will begin your journey across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages, as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. At the half-way point you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, which is famous for its fossils and rocks, before continuing towards Merzouga. You'll eventually reach Merzouga in the afternoon at around 5:00PM. There your guide and camels will be waiting for you, and following some rest you will start a camel trek across the sandy dunes of the Erg-chebbi.
