Nice: Train Experience Through The Alps and Baroque Route

1. Nice: Train Experience Through The Alps and Baroque Route

Escape the tourist crowds and join a combo tour of train experience, discovery of medieval villages, stunning baroque architecture, and incredible natural spots in the middle of the Alps. After meeting your guide 7:55 AM, depart at 8:30 AM from Nice Ville Central Station. Discover breathtaking landscapes as you pass by natural canyons, highly elevated bridges, and tunnel on a 2.5-hour train ride to your destination. During the ride, your guide will tell you the secrets of one of the most beautiful train lines in France, a testimony of French civil engineering at the beginning of the 20th century. Make a stop at 2 medieval villages, Saorge and Tende, and some days La Brigue. First, visit Tende and its Museum des Merveilles to discover Stone Age and other historic artifacts from the Mercantour National Park. Then, head over to Mercantour National Park and spot protected species of flowers. See other highlights of Tende, including a Baroque cathedral, a maze of medieval streets, panoramic views from the top of the village, the cemetery, and the ruins of an old castle. Continue the tour to Saorge, an impressive medieval village with steeped streets, built on a concave hillside. Admire the charming and peaceful Franciscan Convent of Saorge founded in the 17th century before visiting the Church of Saint-Sauveur. The church was rebuilt in the 15th century following a fire and restored in the 18th century. The village offers spectacular sceneries of the Alps and the canyons around. When it's time for lunch you can either select from a lunch picnic or lunch at a local restaurant.

We are staying in Nice for a month and decided to take this trip as a special excursion. We were not disappointed. It was amazing to go up into the Alps to and see countryside that we would not normally see. Our tour guide Sebastian was perfection. Knowledgeable and a truly nice person. Just take note that the hiking portion of this tour up to the monastery is quite taxing…make sure that you’re prepared with the proper footwear!

Full day of touring a spectacular area in the southern Alps, very well worth it in my opinion. Our Guide Sebastien was very informative & enthusiastic about the region, and we came away with good insights & a good workout walking the hilly streets of the local villages. Terrific experience !

Highly recommended day out, fantastic scenery you will only experience from the train, the two guides for the day Mous and Sabastian were wonderful, friendly and very informative. A big thank you to them for a great day out.

Great tour with a great tour guide called Samual. Met a lovely group of people that was part of my group. Excellent tour train and people. Highly recommended.
