Full description
Benefit from hotel or guest house pick-up in Funchal (pick-up and drop off outside Funchal is available for an additional fee). Then, travel to the mountains of Madeira and see the Ribeira Brava valley from an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters. Journey through the countryside using old roads and tracks used for forestry and farming. Discover some of Madeira's traditional villages, such as Campanário, Lugar da Serra, Trompica, São Paulo and Ribeira Brava. Marvel at views of the mountains and valleys from an open-top 4x4. Watch the colors of the sunset before a barbecue dinner at a local restaurant. Here, you will feast from a menu (bread, main course and dessert, 1 drink and coffee included) of typical dishes such as espetada - large chunks of beef rubbed in garlic and salt and grilled over an open fire, then served with local fried corn. Sample bolo do caco, the circular bread shaped like a cake that is cooked on a "caco" (a flat basalt stone slab) and served with garlic butter.

Juan was amazing, really personable and told us so much about the local area, culture, history and commerce of the island which we loved - he even would randomly pull over and point out different crops, vistas and buildings for us to learn about without coming across as arrogant or pushy - plus he took us to a great secluded area for sunset viewing rather than the more popular areas which would have been busier - thanks Juan!!

Nearly perfect!

If the sun hadn't hidden for the last minute it would have been perfect. But nobody can do anything for that! Barbecue, I thought we'd make one ourselves! However, this was probably not planned but a restaurant that prepared the national dish as such and served to us. The dinner costs extra .. but the whole of the offer was great, the pickup worked, the guide was great and the little off-road tour was great again for everyone. The food was delicious and the area at sunset by the sea was great, the best thing was the end in the festively decorated fishing village with delicious poncha. Gladly again and really recommendable!

Nice evening with Waldemar

The sunset and the drive along the west coast (old road) breathtaking. The barbecue was awesome. Is to be recommended, then the time can also be a little longer. That was the end of our little trip. From nuns valley to levada hike and excursion to Porto Moniz and this evening, we were all thrilled. Everything was exhausted in this short time. Our bookings were made before this trip to Madeira started. Everything was great and we liked it.
