Full description

Enjoy a 3-hour levada (aqueduct) walk with fascinating landscapes incorporating tremendous valleys, spectacular waterfalls, infinite laurel, header forest, and beautiful springs. This and much more is what the Rabaçal area has to offer. At this height the landscape is dominated by moorland, which includes Erica arborea and Erica scoparia as well as Madeiran whortleberry. This vegetation alters with the altitude as it reduces other predominate species, including the rare mountain mocano (Pittosporum coriaceum). This area includes Madeira’s Laurisilva Forest, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

Worth every penny, one thing you need to be aware of - it is not 3h tour. I’m glad I checked the comments before we left and prepared for full day activity. We left hotel at 9.30 and came back after 4pm so pretty much most of the day. Spectacular views, great guide who shared lots of information about Madeira! Beautiful experience!

The guided hike with the guide was flawless, very beautiful, entertaining and informative. However, the agreement and the time mentioned, which was postponed by 2 hours and we were standing by the roadside, was very unpleasant. Only after a phone call with the agency did we get the information about the new pick-up time. We would like to express our thanks again to our guide.

Guide and hike were great

What was not good, pickup was postponed by 1 hour and then again by 15 minutes without informing us. According to the announcement, the journey to the hike was short, but it was 1.5 hours and then back again. So our tour including arrival and departure with hike was 7 hours. We had only booked a short trip and therefore no more time in Funchal. Wrong announcement of the booked tour !!
