Full description

Start with pick-up from the hotel and drive through Funchal's steep roads, heading to the mountains and through the national park, black forest (Schwarzwald).

Pass the Eucalyptus and Mimosa forests overlooking the Christmas pines, into the breathtaking mountains of Pico do Arieiro at 1,800 meters. The centenary Forest covered by the old trees (Laurisilva) is a must and a short walk along the levada Madeiras water channels can be taken as an option.

Taking the old road of Faial overlooking the eagles rock mountain, Santana will be the next stop. Visit the town's traditional thatched houses and vines. Make a stop for lunch (not included in the price). After the lunch stop in Santana, continue to Porto Cruz, passing the sugar cane fields. Visit the only steam rum factory in Europe (includes rum tasting) and explore the village. See the rough black sandy beach popular for surfers. In July and August, enjoy the chance to swim in the famous saltwater. Then, travel along the North Coast where sugar cane terraces are still visible. See the old capital of Madeira, Machico, where the first Portuguese settlers arrived in the 15th century, before heading to Ponta de São Lourenço, the eastern point cape of the island where the rock formations will astound.

We saw a great deal of this part of Madeira, more than we expected. The second highest mountain in Madeira was particularly impressive. It was also nice that a small levada hike to a viewpoint was included. It was varied. Our guide told us a lot about the life of the people on Madeira.

They picked us up at the door of the hotel, they went through several hotels because we were different couples. In total we were 8 plus the guide. 2 Belgian couples, 1 French couple and us from Spain. We had taken the guide in Spanish, and we were surprised at first, but the guy repeated the same thing 3 times in different languages, the guy was a crack. They take you to various places in the east, through mountains, forests and small towns. In a van with more years and kilometers than milk, but the guide drove very well. A highly recommended experience. You see places that you can't see without a car, and we who hadn't rented a car came in handy. Be careful if you are afraid of heights or going through narrow places because with the van you will pass. 10/10. Unbeatable price quality.

Overall, this was a great tour, with lots of stops and amazing views, this island is quite amazing. Lucy, our guide was also very nice, the only issue was the fact that they picked us up very late and that she talked way too much in Portuguese. I know a bit the language, that’s why I can tell you that she translated only bits and pieces in English.
