Full description

Your 4-hour excursion begins with a pick-up at your Funchal hotel in a 4X4 vehicle. From there you’ll head out on a drive up the steep roads to Pico dos Barcelos. Take in magnificent views of Funchal, the coastline and the mountains. Next, you’ll move on to Curral das Freiras, and you’ll learn about the fascinating local history. The 4X4 will take you up to the top of the third-highest mountain in Madeira, at 1,818 meters, where you’ll be able to enjoy fantastic 360-degree panoramic views over the island. Stop in the wicker-producing area of Camacha to finish the tour, and learn about the workings of this traditional industry.

The driver was very nice and told a lot, half Portuguese, half English, as there was still a Portuguese family “on board”. I had paid for a German tour and in the future I will no longer pay attention to the language in which the tour is offered, because English is always spoken and costs less. Otherwise it was a very pleasant, extremely interesting and beautiful 4 hours in which we saw a lot of great things. Our guide was from Madeira and of course knew every corner of the tour. I liked it!

Great way to see Madeira

Our guide Val was so good we booked a second tour of the East with him, felt very safe in his hands and his knowledge about the history of Madeira was amazing. Enjoyed the group we were with and his choice of little off roads really made us feel like we were having a special private tour.
