Day 2 Depart from Ponta Delgada, along the island South coast, towards Furnas Valley and Vila Franca do Campo, former capital of the islan, with a fine historical center. Your first stop at Furnas will be on the banks of the lake, to watch as your lunch, the cozido na caldeira, is dug up from the volcanic soil. Cooked by the natural volcanic heat, is a traditional Portuguese stew with all the ingredients that characterize this typical dish.
