Giverny & Monet's Garden by Train

2. Giverny & Monet's Garden by Train

Some of Claude Monet’s most famous works were painted in Giverny. These include his Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge paintings. The Impressionist artist lived in Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. On this full-day excursion you’ll travel to Giverny by train, round-trip from Paris. The garden itself comprises a flower garden in front of the house and the more famous water gardens across the road. Monet began work on the water gardens about 10 years after arriving in Giverny. Interestingly locals were originally opposed to his plans to build water gardens, fearful that the strange plants would poison the water of the tributary feeding the ponds. The flower gardens cover about a hectare and are laid out in color-themed borders. There are literally thousands of flowers in these gardens including masses of tulips, irises, oriental poppies and peonies, all with the wonderful colors that inspired Monet's paintings. The water gardens have a Japanese theme and include a replica of the Japanese bridge which featured in Monet's well-known painting. In addition to the gardens you’ll be able to visit Monet’s lovely and very colorful house.

What people are saying about Giverny

A wonderful custom tour to Giverny on a Friday. The garden was therefore not so full and our guide was able to show and explain everything to us in peace. There was also enough time on the trip to explain other aspects of French history, as he was not only familiar with art history and the painter Monet. Very nice experience and a great trip. We were just sorry that our guide had to wait because there was an error in the coordination between his agency and GetyourGuide regarding the pick-up time at the hotel.

Wonderful guide! Fabulous outing. It's a must do! Got so much history in a fun and interesting way. Saw the graveyard and the house and garden. Was given perfect amount of time to 'stroll'. Comfortable outing, only had 3 other people.

Lovely trip to Givernay Nice visit to Monet's grave and stroll through his lovely village.

We had a wonderful day with Michelle with showers and sunshine. It was a pleasant day.

This was a lovely small group tour with a great guide
