  • Giverny & Monet's Garden by Train

    6. Giverny & Monet's Garden by Train

Some of Claude Monet’s most famous works were painted in Giverny. These include his Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge paintings. The Impressionist artist lived in Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. On this full-day excursion you’ll travel to Giverny by train, round-trip from Paris. The garden itself comprises a flower garden in front of the house and the more famous water gardens across the road. Monet began work on the water gardens about 10 years after arriving in Giverny. Interestingly locals were originally opposed to his plans to build water gardens, fearful that the strange plants would poison the water of the tributary feeding the ponds. The flower gardens cover about a hectare and are laid out in color-themed borders. There are literally thousands of flowers in these gardens including masses of tulips, irises, oriental poppies and peonies, all with the wonderful colors...

Monet's garden is always a pleasure no matter what time of year. The garden is peaceful no matter how many people are around. Having a service who arranged your tour and tickets prior to your visit provided great peace of mind. The times there were generous with plenty of opportunities to see the place. Many thanks.

Fred was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable about both Monet and the Palace of Versailles. Went back and forth whether to book a trip with or without lunch but so glad we booked this trip. The quaint restaurant was superb. The opulence of the palace was mind blowing however, the highlight for both of us was Monet’s lily pond/ garden and house tour. Monet's house and gardens exceeded my expectations. There was so much in bloom for May, and the gardens are beautifully maintained. The house is also beautiful. I thought the cost of $121 was a bit high considering it was basically just a ride out to the location and back. It's about one hour from Paris, so we had a total of two hours to explore the house and gardens and gift shop. It would have been nice to have time for lunch, but alas we did not.
