Full description
Explore the old town district of Vegueta in Las Palmas to learn about a historical settlement founded in 1478 by Castilian troops. Set off from Plaza de las Ranas to discover the Old Quarter’s links to Atlantic maritime navigation. Currently under submission for UNESCO World Heritage status, the areas of Vegueta and Triana include many beautiful sights, including the historic Guiniguada Theater, a former movie theater that recently underwent a restoration project. Walk down cobblestone streets, passing close to the Cathedral of Santa Ana, one of the most important monuments of Canarian architecture. Behind the cathedral lies the Plaza del Pilar Neuvo, a former gathering place for local women to collect water from the central well. Admire the balconies of traditional houses of the nobility en route to Plaza de San Antonio Abad. Here, you will get access to the Casa Museo de Colón (optional for €4), dedicated to the history of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of the American continent by Europeans.

Our guide was very nice and very knowledgeable. Her English was a little difficult to understand, but not bad. She was interrupted 3 times along the way. Once by a friend and once by a tourist - each time it was for just a few minutes but we were just standing there waiting for her to finish which was a little awkward. The third interruption was a young man who appeared to have some mental deficit but kept talking to us in Spanish and would not leave. We otherwise enjoyed our tour and would recommend our guide to others.
