On this full-day excursion you’ll visit the Karkonosze Mountains, also known as the Giant Mountains, and the fascinating Valley of Palaces and Gardens and unique 19th-century mansions. Most of the sites are situated at the foot of the largest mountain range in the Sudetes. The scenic route takes you from Wrocław to the extraordinary 14th-century Siedlecin Tower House. Admire one of the most outstanding examples of medieval art: the 14th-century polychromes that portray scenes from the Arthurian legends of Lancelot. The next stop is a late baroque palace in Staniszow where you'll sample Echt Stonsdorfer (traditional herb liqueur) from the village. From here, travel to Karpacz, one of the most popular mountain resorts, situated directly at the foot of the Karkonosze range. Here you'll visit the Vang Stave church, considered to be the oldest wooden church in Poland and a unique relic of Nordic Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century. It was originally built in Norway and was moved to Silesia by a Prussian king in 19th century.

2. From Wroclaw: Full-Day Stolowe Mountains Trekking Tour

On this full-day tour you will transfer from Wroclaw to the Stolowe Mountains National Park, a protected area in Poland with amazing rock formations. The mountain trip starts at Karlow village and after 40 minutes ascent you will reach the wonderful “rocky city” on the top of Szczeliniec Wielki, a huge maze of rocks in various shapes. At 919 meters above sea level, this peak is the highest point of the Stolowe Mountains and offers breathtaking views of the Sudety and Karkonosze mountain ranges. After a short break in a mountain shelter you will descend to the famous spa resort of Kudowa Zdroj, where you will walk through the city park and taste the water from different health springs. On the way you will stop at the Skeleton Chapel in Czermna, where the walls and ceiling are made from thousands of human bones and skulls of war and epidemic victims from the18th century. You will then transfer back to Wroclaw.

Experience the beautiful scenery of the Karkonosze, the highest part of the Sudetes mountain system, where the Czech-Polish border runs along the main ridge. During a daylong trip to Karpacz, where the highest peak of Karkonosze, Sniezka, is situated 1602 meters above the sea level, you will have the opportunity to see the beautiful Lower Silesian towns and villages. See the Vang stave church, which was built in the twelfth century in Northern Norway without any nails and moved to Karkonosze by Frederick William IV of Prussia in the nineteenth century. Take a chairlift to Kopa, located 1322 meters above the sea level. A hike from Kopa to Sniezka takes only about 50 minutes. The track runs through Norwegian tundra, where distinctive three-centimeter heather grows and the Bogs of Rownia pod Sniezka, which is one of the greatest in Europe. Visit the Museum of Sports and Tourism and learn about the history of the Karkonosze region, the first region in Europe where people enjoyed winter sports and where luge and skiing were popularized.

Travel to the hills of Germany's Saxon Switzerland on a day trip from Wrocław. Tour the Königstein Fortress complex, one of the largest hilltop fortifications in Europe, with an audio guide. Hike to a picturesque set of towering sandstone rocks to the historic Bastei Bridge. After pickup from Wrocław, head towards the hilltop Königstein Fortress through the scenic landscapes of the Saxon Switzerland region. Tour the fortification with an audio guide and enjoy spectacular views over the Elbe River and the rest of the valley. Once at the top, admire walls made of sandstone. Learn about the history of this place, nicknamed the “Saxon Bastille”, due to its use as a prison over the centuries. After the audio-guided visit of the whole complex, enjoy free time to try local dishes or some Saxon beer. Next, explore the beauty of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Upon arrival, take a 1 km (0.6 mile) walk to Bastei Bridge and be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Elbe and jagged sandstone rocks. Erected in the mid-19th century with its 7 emblematic arches, it rises to a height of 305 meters. From here, you can decide if you want to visit the ruins of the medieval Neurathen Castle (not included) or have a break for food and drinks before returning back to Wroclaw.
