Full description

Enjoy some time away from the beaches and explore a different side of Crete on a guided excursion. See the freshwater springs in the small town of Krasi, visit the Kera and Vidiani monasteries, step into the mythical Psychro Cave, and take part in a traditional ceramics workshop.

Get picked up from your accommodation in the morning and take a short drive to the traditional village of Krasi. Gaze at the beautiful freshwater springs and the oldest tree on Crete as you take in the countryside scenery. Up next, stop at two local monasteries.

See the Monastery of Kera dedicated to the Virgin Mary, located near the town of Kera. Move on to Vidiani Monastery, a small male monastery at the foot of Louloudaki Mountain. Uncover the secrets of the mythical birthplace of Zeus, Psychro Cave, decorated with impressive stalactites and stalagmites.

Lastly, participate in a ceramics workshop and see how traditional pieces are made, before heading over to a typical Cretan tavern with local products and dishes to enjoy lunch at your own expense.

Excursion was in a different order than in the description, that does not matter. Note: Cave visits are almost impossible! It takes 15-20 minutes of quite a scramble to get to the top of the line for the cave. In terms of time, not really an option, but with a worse condition or, for example, with difficulty walking, the cave will not work. Fortunately, the rest made up for a lot. Driver was friendly and drove safely

Very great tour. You saw a lot of things typical of the country. Among other things, the oldest tree in Crete, the Kera women's monastery in which, according to legend, one can receive Maria's blessing, the beautiful Vidiani men's monastery, an indescribable view over the entire Lasithi plateau, the highlight: the Psychro cave in Greek mythology Zeus was born, a pottery workshop in a small village where you could taste olive oil, wine, raki, various delicacies and ointments. Last but not least, the tour ended in a remote village where there was a good meal at the local tavern. The tour guide was very friendly and explained everything in great detail both in German and in French. Clear recommendation from us!

The excursion was very nice and I can only recommend it. We always had enough time between the stops, it was very relaxed and not at all hasty. The food in the tavern was very tasty, the service was nice and the food came quickly. The ascent to the cave is a bit strenuous, but you can climb up the hill at your leisure and take breaks inside, or you can take the donkey taxi for a small fee. During the bus ride, the guide told many facts about the different places & ran a story about the Greek gods, so that you get an even better connection to the cave. All in all it was very nice.
