Full description

This circular tour takes you over a mountain pass to the seaside town of Hermanus. This town, nestled between mountains and the sea is not only very beautiful but offers some of the best shore based whale watching opportunities in the world (August – November). Close sightings of the Southern Right whale are likely. On the return journey we follow the coastline with the possibility of further sightings of whales (and even the possibility of sighting dolphins). On the return journey you will visit Bouchard Finlayson Wine Estate for a wine tasting near Betty’s Bay to have a look at the penguins (optional, for own account and time permitting) before returning to Cape Town in the afternoon. On Sundays, a stop is made at stony point instead of wine tasting at Bouchard Finlayson.

Includes
  • Return transfers from central Cape Town hotels
  • Non-residents: Wine tasting at Bouchard Finlayson (Weds and Fri), Penguin sighting at Stony Point (Sun)
  • Residents: Harold Porter Botanical Gardens entrance fee

Book through local partner to save money

Had a great time doing this tour: Everything was well organized, the guides were knowledgeable, beautiful drive down to Hermanus, the whales were amazing to watch! Two recommendations: 1) Book through the local partner directly as it's about 20 pounds cheaper than booking through this website. 2) Book the whale watching boat tour as a combo package with your trip to Hermanus as it will save you some money too.

Fantastic day. Weather was a dream. We have seen wales on the walk.

On the way to Hermanus we drove through a permanently changing countryside. Very entertaining to look out of the window. In Hermanus we walked along the coast with a beautiful view on the wales. Our guide was very nice. On the way back we visited the pinguins and he drove along the seaside back to Capetown Telinho us a lot about locals.

No whales

Now so late in the season it is a bit misleading to "go on a whale watching" as there are no whales. However, we had an amazing guide named Gino who was flexible and drove past "Cheeta Outreach" instead, another fantastic place. We did, however, have lunch in Hermanus and got to see fantastic views on there and back home, as well as a lot of stories you would not otherwise hear. We are super happy!
