Copenhagen: Roskilde, Frederiksborg & Kronborg Day Tour

1. Copenhagen: Roskilde, Frederiksborg & Kronborg Day Tour

Enjoy a scenic sightseeing tour of North Sealand on an 8.5-hour excursion from Copenhagen, and visit the royal monuments of Kronborg Castle and Frederiksborg Castle and the World Heritage site of Roskilde Cathedral. Ideal for those who want to explore further than the city center to see as much as possible of historic Denmark, but are short of time, you will travel in a small group for a more personalized experience. The tour includes time to explore the imposing exteriors and interiors of Frederiksborg and Kronborg castles, the latter set on the banks of the Sund between Denmark and Sweden, and most notable as the site of Elsinore in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Soak up the romantic setting of Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, surrounded by a beautiful lake and gardens. The guide will take you to Roskilde to visit Roskilde Cathedral, burial site of 39 Danish kings and queens, including Ingrid of Sweden, spouse of Denmark’s Frederick IX, father of the current Queen Margrethe II. The last stop on your tour will be the Viking Ship Museum to see rebuilt models and excavated ships from the days when the Vikings rampaged their way - and conquered - much of Western Europe and the North Atlantic. Please note, that between November and March and most of April, the tour does not include a visit to the Cathedral's interior but rather a walk around the impressive structure and an introduction to the Cathedral's place in history.

From Copenhagen: Kings, Castles and Countryside Tour

2. From Copenhagen: Kings, Castles and Countryside Tour

Join in on a full day’s tour where you will travel up the coast from bustling Copenhagen to the historic city of Helsingør. There you can visit Kronborg, Hamlet’s Castle, built by King Frederik II in 1585. In Helsingør you can visit the Maritime Museum, enjoy Smørrebrød, the famous Danish open sandwich, in Culture Wharf or walk around the historic center of Helsingør. After your visit to Helsingør, you will travel through the beautiful North Sealand countryside to Fredensborg Slot, which translated means Peace Palace, in English. The palace was built for King Frederik IV, between 1720 and 1726. Then travel along some country roads to the beautiful Frederiksborg Palace, built by King Christian IV. When finished in 1620, it was the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. Today Frederiksborg contains the largest collection of portrait paintings in Denmark. There are also two lovely gardens. One is the Baroque Garden, laid out in the formal French Baroque style, the other, the more natural garden in English Romantic style. After our visit to Fredensborg Palace, you will be taken back to Copenhagen.

Really great tour if you are trying to see a lot in one day. This tour takes you to 4 locations. Our guide was absolutely fantastic. It will feel a little rushed if you are someone who wants to really get into the weeds, then this may not be for you. However, I found the time at all locations to be adequate enough to appease my appetite. The only location where I found that a little more time may have been nice was the cathedral, but it was closing early that day. Overall, the price may seem a little high but the value is how much time you save and having direct transportation to and from the locations. (The bonus was the wonderful guide who answered all questions about Danish culture).

Is an excellent way to see more of Denmark outside Copenhagen. The Fredericksburg castle is much more interesting than the 2 castles palaces in Copenhagen And our guide Robert the right person for the job!!!

Peter was a highly knowledgable and enthusiastic guide. The minibus was very comfortable and the tour had a steady, casual pace. Overall, the tour was excellent: 4 very distinct and interesting sites.

We had a great tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend.

Exciting day of discoveries: Viking museum, castles and cathedrals.
