Spend four days and three nights immersed in the natural landscapes and wildlife of the Peruvian Amazon in Iquitos. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature in one of the most memorable natural landscapes in the world. Day 1: Get picked up from the airport or your accommodation in Iquitos, then get driven to the port to take a boat to the lodge. On the way to the port, receive a brief description of the city and its surroundings. Upon arrival at the lodge, visit the mirador (balcony) from where you can appreciate a clear view of the jungle. After lunch, enjoy a canoe ride with a professional native guide who knows all the trails in the area. Observe the local flora and fauna and learn the uses that the local people have for each plant. Spend the rest of your night at the lodge. Day 2: At dawn, enjoy a morning walk as you watch the sun rise over this unique landscape. Observe and learn about the typical birds of the area. Day 4: Start with breakfast at the lodge, then gear up for a jungle trek exploration of the tree La Ceiba de la Selva, also known by the Indians as Huimba. This almost 500-year-old tree has a height of up to 160 feet and a diameter of 10 feet. Near the end of the trip, check out and have lunch before leaving the lodge. PICK UP Hotel or Airport with a member of the YAKUMAMA AMAZON TOURS team (naturalist guide) who will be there waiting to receive you, then we will take a private car (1 hour ½, approx.) to go to the city of Nauta, (Nauta port located on the Marañón River), then we will take our typical wooden-roofed boat to navigate approximately 2 hours to the Lodge, along the Marañón, Amazonas, Ucayali and Yarapa rivers, (our lodge is located on the Yarapa River). After meeting your guide, you’ll head straight to the Nanay River Port, where you’ll hop on a boat bound for the jungle. Head up the Amazon River for a brief half-hour cruise before arriving at your lodge for the night. After finding your room and settling in with a small snack, you’ll head off on a guided walk through the jungle. Coming back to the lodge, you’ll enjoy a lunch of fish, legumes, and rice. Heading back into the jungle, you’ll find some of the largest trees in the area, as well as climb to the top of an exquisite viewpoint. On the way back, you’ll admire the technicolor jungle sunset, keeping your eyes peeled for green tree frogs. After dinner, you’ll retire for the evening in your river-view room. Waking up bright and early at 5:00 AM, you’ll catch the sunrise from the top of the lodge over breakfast. You’ll start the day’s touring by visiting a farm for lizards, piranhas, and pirarucus, one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. Afterwards, you’ll visit an animal rescue center, home to sloths and giant anacondas. After lunch, you’ll have some free time to wander and relax before heading back to Iquitos.
