Iquitos: Private Piranha Fishing Trip on the Itaya River

4. Iquitos: Private Piranha Fishing Trip on the Itaya River

Learn the truth about the iconic piranhas of the Amazon on a fishing trip in Iquitos. No need for fancy equipment, hook a line and throw it in from a canoe and wait for the fish to come to you. Fish from a canoe using handmade rods like a local on the Itaya River. Climb aboard as your private guide takes you to the best spots to fish for the famed red Amazon piranha. This mythical fish with a bad reputation is not quite the monster Hollywood likes to make it out to be. Around 20-25cm long, with a bright red underbelly, piranhas generally share Amazon waterways quite peacefully with humans. On your fishing trip, your guide will search out the best places to find the legendary fish with an undeserved bad rap.
